Out of the Blue

R.I.P.: Buddy Hackett (registration required), one of the great stand-up comics (and fellow Brooklyn native). What's odd is that the Hallmark channel started showing a week-long Love Bug marathon this week, and MrsBlue and I just watched the first one last night. Of course so close to the passing of Katherine Hepburn, we are sure to hear some of that "they go in threes" stuff, but I don't imagine that that theory stands up to much scientific examination.

Say isn't giving the finger originally an american gesture? Then that means...

No, it's French Canadian. We're in big trouble.

I don't know what's wrong with your setup Dan, or why you couldn't get it to work, but it stops all popups, and not just when you're leaving the site. I haven't gotten a single popup since I installed it. Did you close all your browser windows after you installed it?

/me shrugs. If you can't get it to work, and you don't want to try, it's no sweat off my back.

You don't need the Google toolbar if you use the Tweak UI Power Toy. You can set up the search feature (under Internet Explorer) and search from google right from your address bar. No extra tool bar needed

Well, what kind of time frame do you give for planes going in threes?

It's probably impossible to give any kind of rocksolid timeframe, but they seem to go down within a matter of a few weeks / a month at most of one another, and then there isn't another crash for half a year to a year, when all of a sudden three more go down within several weeks / a month.

Ofcourse, we probably never hear of the almost daily crashes from such airline beauties as Garuda and Air Katmandu.

While I don't think that "famous people" go in threes (and who cares anyways), have you ever noticed that airplanes ALWAYS go in threes?

I heard someone mention it sometime during the late 80s (yes I really am that old), and started paying attention to it, and it's frightening, but it's true. Once a plane crashes, I don't get on until the next two have gone down, then I fly as soon as possible after that last crash.

I guess everyone needs to have a superstition about something.

Oh, and I got it solely for the popup blocking, but it has some nice extra features that you may find useful, or you can turn them all off.

They have an extra feature that you can turn off that's called PageRank. When you go to install it, they explicitly describe what it does. Basically, PageRank is what they use to rank their search results. And if you want, you can have the toolbar automatically lookup the PageRank for the page you are viewing. Obviously, doing a lookup sends them the URL you are looking up, just like doing a search sends them the search word you are using.

If you don't want it, then leave it off. You can even get a version that doesn't even have it as a part of the toolbar. It takes about 3 clicks to turn it off if you do have it on.

I don't find it too particularly useful, but I do find it interesting to look at the PageRank for the sites I usually frequent. Guess what Blue's is ranked.
