Out of the Blue

Hatch Takes Aim at Illegal Downloading (thanks D.G.Whiskey)... when 70-year-olds deal with technology. Mind you I'm not critical of this because it is anti-piracy, but just because it's nightmarishly stupid. My thought is to counter this with a proposal that causes Senators' cars to break down should they be suspected of engaging in illegal or illicit activities... it would be fun to see all these stuffed shirts waiting by the side of the road to get their limos towed.

but just because it's nightmarishly stupid.

What frightens me is this bonehead is speaking in public and making statements that show him to be a moron.

Despite this blatant display of stupidity he will be reelected easily.

The feasibility of such an undertaking is obviously nil. I can only imagine what would happen to US government networks if they were so stupid as to pass something like this into law.

Just look at what happened to Madonna for yelling at pirates on her mp3s!

Wondering how Whiskey beat me to this one,

I don't think Hatch thinks that way because he's old but because he's a musician himself. http://www.hatchmusic.com/

Hatch is just trying to protect his intellectual property.

Yours Truly,

Why do I get the impression that Orin Hatch thinks that he is talking to 4th graders and, more importantly, he thinks that we are all very, very stupid. These are the kinds of remarks that you might say to your 3 yr old who keeps picking his nose -- "son, you know if you keep doing that your nose will fall completely off, . . . its true".

aaaahahahahah Like anyone is going to steal that old fart's music. Don't even get me started. I crack up laughing every time I see these stupid copywrite ideas. They can't stop it. Whatever they do will be countered. Smartest thing they could do is wise up and make music cheap enough that it would be mostly a waste of time to steal it.

Maybe I need to load up Foxy/CCP and make a joystick config for the Cougar.

If you live in an area where Verizon offers DSL:

http://newscenter.verizon.com/proactive/newsroom/release.vtml?id=80217

What would you say to $35 a month for ADSL consumer service with
downstream performance up to 1.5Mbps? That's the deal, in fact, that
arguably the largest Baby Bell, Verizon, began offering on May 13. And
it's not a limited-time deal or temporary price cut. The company says
this is a permanent price point. Existing Verizon consumer ADSL
subscribers will see their rates lowered automatically. You can even
get $5 per month off the $34.95 price if you sign up for a Verizon
long-distance package on the same phone line. And even that discount
isn't a limited-time offer.

'"I'm interested," Hatch interrupted. He said damaging someone's computer "may be the only way you can teach somebody about copyrights."'

Maybe somebody should teach the senators about copyrights
and why they were instated in the first place. Fix that
problem and then I'll listen to him.

What an admission of stupidity this guy has embarked on. while he's busy ripping the US off with pork-belly projects and politicians committing a litenany of infrignments. He thinks the public should sit idley by while industry corrals us into corporate hegemony.

Granted I am all for artist being duely rewarded for their contributions. But in this new age Mcarthyism, poking us in the eye. especially to those of us with some semblence of intelligence.

Blue almost hit it right with his comment ". My thought is to counter this with a proposal that causes Senators' cars to break down should they be suspected of engaging in illegal or illicit activities... it would be fun to see all these stuffed shirts waiting by the side of the road to get their limos towed."

My sentiments are from a different perspective... How about this? As much as these politicians are paid and recieve via improprietous ventures. Why don't they deliver something that works and is not some frankenstein solution. Then agian politics is simply legalized crime.

in other words: "let us ejoy a little impropriety that cost us nothing because they are the ones benefiting from a daily revenue stream called taxes."
