Out of the Blue

Hatch Takes Aim at Illegal Downloading (thanks D.G.Whiskey)... when 70-year-olds deal with technology. Mind you I'm not critical of this because it is anti-piracy, but just because it's nightmarishly stupid. My thought is to counter this with a proposal that causes Senators' cars to break down should they be suspected of engaging in illegal or illicit activities... it would be fun to see all these stuffed shirts waiting by the side of the road to get their limos towed.

It's always amusing to hear from the peanut gallery on "liberal media". The only liberal media left today are small, local, independent rags. Everything else is big business and very right-wing.
The majority of the cheerleaders...er, journalists of the latest war of aggression in Iraq prooved that beyond a shadow of a doubt.

Liberal talk shows aren't successful because they don't pander to the lowest common denominator. That's because democratic voters by and large are far more educated than republican voters. If there were educational and/or IQ requirements to vote, we'd never see a republican administration again.

Most republican voters are gun toting rednecks, who salivate in a Pavlovian manner whenever they hear the words 'war' or 'tax cuts', regardless of the morality or logic (or lack thereof) involved. They associate the GOP with success, not understanding how they're in fact helping to preserve a system that leaves them dumb and dirt poor.

You think it's a coincidence that 10% of the people control 95% of the wealth in the U.S.?

It's ironic you say liberal talk shows are all about whinging and complaining, when that really fits conservatives much more nicely.

See, democratic values are all about compromise and what's best for everyone involved. It's known as the social contract-something learned in college-so most republican voters will never know what that is.

Conservative values on the other hand are more akin to a child throwing a tantrum. 'Gimme, gimme, gimme!' and 'I don't want to share!'
You don't undestand the importance of compromise. Why tax cuts aren't always a good thing. Why being selfish to the point of destroying the planet we all must inhabit is a bd thing. That the environment is really nothing more a terrarium, and when it fails so does everything else. That going to war under a false pretext to acquire resources to make your friends richer is immoral.

See, democrats discuss and debate these issues. Conservatives on the other hand, rail and whine and throw tantrums about them.
Conservative talk show hosts do that, because they know it's what amuses their audience. Much like Jerry Springer.

As someone who has a degree in PolySci, it's entirely laughable when people turn to morons like Bill O'Reilly for his opinion. The guy is a tabloid journalist. Always has been, still is and always will be.

Meantime, if anyone is really interested in some spin-free media (or as close as you can get), check out the following sites...

"SO you presume to know what's a better perspective?"

Actually, in my opinion you sound like a communist. Bill Maher was taken off the air because of closeted republican right winged controlled corporate management.

Matter of fact, in the world of employment you can't keep a job if you don't dress the part andbehave like the good little solider. You're labeled: conformist or non-conformist.

I indured that shit in the military and still kicked ass and still recieved medals and promotions. So it is possible to be different within respect and succeed.

The best inspiration came from left of center thinking. matter of fact the success of most business stemmed from being different more than the established choices. You are a real fool. We wouldn't have planes, trains and automoblies if weren't for competition and someone having the courage to be different.

Today we have a different kind of problem... the GREEDY and COMPLACENT. it's obvious which you are.

so step off my mountian you female "SHEEP!"

Looks like we have some angry liberals who can't stand, after years of having their way with the media, things going the more conservative route. The reason why liberal talk shows are not successful, is because they don't make any sense. Liberal talk shows are at their best when they are cutting down the establishment and whining and complaining.

What an admission of stupidity this guy has embarked on. while he's busy ripping the US off with pork-belly projects and politicians committing a litenany of infrignments. He thinks the public should sit idley by while industry corrals us into corporate hegemony.

Granted I am all for artist being duely rewarded for their contributions. But in this new age Mcarthyism, poking us in the eye. especially to those of us with some semblence of intelligence.

Blue almost hit it right with his comment ". My thought is to counter this with a proposal that causes Senators' cars to break down should they be suspected of engaging in illegal or illicit activities... it would be fun to see all these stuffed shirts waiting by the side of the road to get their limos towed."

My sentiments are from a different perspective... How about this? As much as these politicians are paid and recieve via improprietous ventures. Why don't they deliver something that works and is not some frankenstein solution. Then agian politics is simply legalized crime.

in other words: "let us ejoy a little impropriety that cost us nothing because they are the ones benefiting from a daily revenue stream called taxes."

'"I'm interested," Hatch interrupted. He said damaging someone's computer "may be the only way you can teach somebody about copyrights."'

Maybe somebody should teach the senators about copyrights
and why they were instated in the first place. Fix that
problem and then I'll listen to him.

If you live in an area where Verizon offers DSL:

http://newscenter.verizon.com/proactive/newsroom/release.vtml?id=80217

What would you say to $35 a month for ADSL consumer service with
downstream performance up to 1.5Mbps? That's the deal, in fact, that
arguably the largest Baby Bell, Verizon, began offering on May 13. And
it's not a limited-time deal or temporary price cut. The company says
this is a permanent price point. Existing Verizon consumer ADSL
subscribers will see their rates lowered automatically. You can even
get $5 per month off the $34.95 price if you sign up for a Verizon
long-distance package on the same phone line. And even that discount
isn't a limited-time offer.

aaaahahahahah Like anyone is going to steal that old fart's music. Don't even get me started. I crack up laughing every time I see these stupid copywrite ideas. They can't stop it. Whatever they do will be countered. Smartest thing they could do is wise up and make music cheap enough that it would be mostly a waste of time to steal it.

Why do I get the impression that Orin Hatch thinks that he is talking to 4th graders and, more importantly, he thinks that we are all very, very stupid. These are the kinds of remarks that you might say to your 3 yr old who keeps picking his nose -- "son, you know if you keep doing that your nose will fall completely off, . . . its true".

Hatch is just trying to protect his intellectual property.
