Hatch Takes Aim at Illegal Downloading (thanks D.G.Whiskey)... when 70-year-olds deal with technology. Mind you I'm not critical of this because it is anti-piracy, but just because it's nightmarishly stupid. My thought is to counter this with a proposal that causes Senators' cars to break down should they be suspected of engaging in illegal or illicit activities... it would be fun to see all these stuffed shirts waiting by the side of the road to get their limos towed.

I forget which country that was that was going through upheavals. But, the conclusion was kill all the educators, scholars, doctors, lawyers and senators to flush the country of corruption. HMMMMMMMMMMMM????? sounds like something only a Roman society would say. Romans even went as far as burning up libraries to erase portions of written history... the Nazis did that to? hmmmmmmmmmmmmm?

It's obvious there is a bit of an elitess battle going on on this board. Class versuses Class

Anyway.. My point. The US will eventually cave in on itself with this expansive, greedy deprecating avangelistic mode it's taken for need to place control on ever aspect of autonomous and soveriegn living. Bribing, and bullying countries into cowtow behavior. That's Politics... Right????

I hope the Parliment fries PM Blair.. he's looking mighty nervous. Bush isn't too far behind with his sinister grinch like contortions.

see how politics becomes? and us against them thinking. that's the sad part.

and McCarthyism.. excuse me for leaving out a F*&%ing "C"

Inconclusion. WDMs or copyright infrignment what's the difference some one always gets fucked in the end. Whether it's the Author or the User.

Don't sweat it, Luke. The fact that rubes like Spanker can't tell the difference between a typo and misspelled word only further prooves my original point.
The guy is borderline literate at best anyway. My guess is he's 16 or 17, a high school dropout, lower middle class background, homophobe, gun nut, bigoted and racist to boot.
You can generally always tell the ones who never finished high school-and it wasn't because they were too intelligent that they got bored and left. LOL!
He's typical of the rest of the drones that protect a way of life that's meant to keep them from having something better for the entire species. And people wonder why the government doesn't want to fully fund post-secondary education.
Ahh well, I suppose the world needs ditch diggers too. I'm just far too much of an idealist, when I should be much more pragmatic about these types of people and their place in the world.

Jedi .. you proved what a exacerbating fool you are, by in one breath verbalizing your disgust at my use of Anglo kin langauge. Then giving me kudos for creating a Colloquialism.

isn't that a bit ironic and irrational on your part?

"IF!" you are the quintessentual? JEDI???? Then you proved what a impromtu pompous B class idiot you are. The JEDI help not hinder

Next. If you want to know the truth. I don't like/ let alone trust politics because it serves typically one purpose. Serving the interest of long term plans and far reaching goals in keeping one tribe besieged and another on top. Do you're history "JEDI".

I'm interested in history and other cultures effect on indegenious people and world matters... you, are of another concern...????

I personally like spending my time watching wishful thinkers berate Noam Chomsky and what a wacko he is assumed to be for his political views. Myself personally, I've been to a few countries he's commented on and seen what Western Civilzation had to offer. Please take note I use that in a past tense term *HAD*

Last. I make perfect sense to anyone on this board. You simply choose to attack me in areas that you assume I'm weak in.

keep it coming.. this is fun.

I think you dislike the simple terms that I use that doesn't plagiarize some other writers or critics sentences and I still manage covey the message even the common man can comprehend...

Hey, I will vote for any candidate that is best for our country whether he or she be republican or democratic. The problem with voting Independent right now, is they really don't have a good candidate and don't stand a chance to win. Next problem voting Independent, it takes a lot more votes away from the Republican side. The last thing we need is another Democrat in office with another "Woka Woka Porn Guitar". The Democratic party is sooooo F'd up right now, they are committing political suicide by pandering to their constituents than to middle America, where the rubber meets the road.

I'm sorry, but I had to comment on some of those statements too...

== You think it's a coincidence that 10% of the people control 95% of the wealth in the U.S.? ==

It's absolutely no coincidence. If you work hard / creatively you can EARN (nice spin word "control" you used) part of the world wealth. If you're a lazy person who depends on the government or just sits their and complain, then you are right, you'll never be wealthy.

Man what an unfair world when those who produce earn the benefits of producing.

== Conservative values on the other hand are more akin to a child throwing a tantrum. 'Gimme, gimme, gimme!' and 'I don't want to share!' ==

Taxes paid be you to the government is money you earned. Wanting the unused portion of YOUR money back is not a "gimmie, gimmie" attitude. The so-called disfranchised wanting MY money IS a "gimmie, gimmie" attitude. And your share comment is wrong too. It's not that conservatives don't want to share, they don't want the government to force them to share with who the government feels deserves it.

Everything else you said is uneducated babble, so I don't feel it necessary to comment on it.

This looks to be turning into another "Democrats Suck!" "No, Republicans Suck!" thread. What the United States needs is a third party, because BOTH parties actually suck.

Oh, just one little snippet :
That's because democratic voters by and large are far more educated than republican voters

There are so many ways I could show this to be wrong that I don't even know where to begin, but let's just use the easiest example.
By and large, it is thought and shown that african americans and hispanics don't get "as good" an education as the whites, right? And by and large, it is thought and shown that as a population group, they aren't as educated as the whites, right?
You DO realise that the large majority of the african american and hispanic populations vote Democrat, right?

Anyways, on to Hatch. It's a shame that once a man's mind goes to shit, the Senate doesn't take pity on him and put him out to pasture. It's obvious that Hatch has no fucking clue what he's talking about. Yes sir, Hatch, let's destroy those computers! Let's bomb those fucking commies! How long has this idiot been in the Senate already, like 78 years or so? Definitely time for a change there, Utah...

It's also funny how the RIAA and all those other music bigwigs are sitting high on their little ivory tower, screaming how even if they were to make music available for download for a low price, people still wouldn't pay for it.

In its first month, Itunes.com sold 3 million songs. THREE FUCKING MILLION SONGS. Granted, that's only 2.7 million dollars, but so much for their little theory that everyone's a thief and always will be, no matter what the circumstances.
I think it's pathetic that a fucking US Senator lets his fucking pants drop and takes it up the ass from any music industry moron with a hardon. Just bend over a little further, Hatch, the pain will pass in just a second.

Did somebody hack the old senile fart's website yet?

In any case, I sure hope this gets passed into legislation, I'm getting to that age where the prospect of working another thirty years doesn't really amuse me all that much anymore, and I'd love to get rich courtesy of a few lawsuits against the music industry blowing up my computer.

You think it's a coincidence that 10% of the people control 95% of the wealth in the U.S.?

A: America has a large middle class, much larger than most countries. Freedom means earning and keeping your own money. I doesn't make sense to give people a money back from taxes, if it wasn't taxed from them in the first place. I don't grudge people for making money, many of them give money back in the form a charities. If you really want to F things up, give it to the government to run.

It's ironic you say liberal talk shows are all about whinging and complaining, when that really fits conservatives much more nicely.

A: Uh whinging? You mean whining?(remember your the educated one)
A:Uh ok, whatever. didn't I just say this about liberals? (you're it!, no, no, you're it!, no, no, no, you're it!) duh.

See, democratic values are all about compromise and what's best for everyone involved. It's known as the social contract-something learned in college-so most republican voters will never know what that is.

A:Oh this is the "We are liberals and more educated than the masses elitism" you went to school with a bunch of hippie liberal professors, studying beer 101, and now you know what is good for everyone, cause you are more educated. You sound like your straight from PBS radio! Well, buddy guess what? People do have brains(even they guy that takes out your trash, and the maid that may clean your house) and they think on their own and don't need YOUR help, nor do they want it!

Conservative values on the other hand are more akin to a child throwing a tantrum. 'Gimme, gimme, gimme!' and 'I don't want to share!'
You don't undestand the importance of compromise. Why tax cuts aren't always a good thing. Why being selfish to the point of destroying the planet we all must inhabit is a bd thing. That the environment is really nothing more a terrarium, and when it fails so does everything else. That going to war under a false pretext to acquire resources to make your friends richer is immoral.

A: Another spelling mistake O'wise one, undestand = understand. O'wise one.... I suggest F7 for spell check(oh that's right let me guess your on a Macintosh doh!)

See, democrats discuss and debate these issues. Conservatives on the other hand, rail and whine and throw tantrums about them.
Conservative talk show hosts do that, because they know it's what amuses their audience. Much like Jerry Springer.

A:Yeah, they discuss and debate until body parts start flowing down a river, and they never do anything until it is too late.

A:Uh, dude? Jerry Springer IS a liberal.

As someone who has a degree in PolySci, it's entirely laughable when people turn to morons like Bill O'Reilly for his opinion. The guy is a tabloid journalist. Always has been, still is and always will be.

A: I am happy to see it's so laughable, if it wasn't such a threat to your liberal way of life you would have never replied to this post, but alas, YOU lie, about yourself and who you truly are(a bitter graduate who can't stand seeing people like me, make more money than you and without your help).

-SPanker has Spankend your pie-hole.

Regan was living proof that politics is all about style over substance.

The actual saddest part is that there's so little difference between democrats and republicans (the politicians themselves) that the whole system has become a joke.

Vote independent!

Most people are entirely indifferent about politics so we keep going round and round, never moving forward with any real progress.

http://www.complacent.org/thought/billionaires.html

These guys created one of the best satirical sites on the web leading up to the 2000 election. Billionaires for Bush or Gore showed the paralells between the two. Apart from about 3 things they were pretty much in agreement on every other issue.

I generally frequent a lot of political sites for research purposes, and after a few years you start seeing the patterns emerge. What most politicians say and do are generally very different things. If you look at the voting records of any of these guys be it under Clinton or Bush Jr. they're pretty much all the same.

All the railing and divisiveness is so much window dressing. America has had the whole "us vs them" mentality conditioned into their mindset for so long that it's second nature now.

The military industrial/intelligence complex has its hands so deep into so many pockets, it's hard to tell where it stops or starts. There entire existence is predicated on the "us vs them" mentality. If there's no enemy. They're out of business.

This why they must constantly strive to portray America as the perpetually aggrieved innocent, only trying to defend itself in a world full of hostile bad guys. It's ridiculous, but it works. Iraq is proof of that. "Oh no, they're an imminent threat that could attack America at any moment, and no we have no interest in their oil!", I mean it's ludicrous to anyone who actually knows better. All the strategic studies experts and policy analysts (of which I am one) were all shaking their heads saying 'Um, that's not only not true, it's blatantly false'.

That's the way the game has always been played though. It's kind of funny-and sad-why so many Americans wonder why they're hated by so much of the world.

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1567510523/ref=ase_counterpunchmaga/103-1561892-0148614?v=glance&s=books

Give that a read, it'll certainly give you a great education in American foreign policy and why so many people hate the US.

Very sad. Untill people really start to wake up and take an active role in politics, the wheels on the bus will keep going round and round.

PS: Azreal, I'm assuming you were either being sarcastic, or mistyped your statement as isn't, when it should be is.

: Sigh : I apologize for being blunt, but every time The Dude posts here, the first thing that comes to mind is a quote from Billy Madison...

"[The Dude], what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."

In all fairness, you may have some good ideas lurking in their somewhere, but it seems as though you simultaneously have a loose grasp of the English language and wish to bowl everyone over with your vocabulary and intellect. Now, I understand if English is not your native tongue, but that fact doesn't make your rambling any easier to comprehend.

Please, make some sense.

Good post Halsy. I must say, I agree with you 100%. In the run up to the 2000 elections, I remember reading several articles which posed the question, "Do We Really Want an Egghead In the White House". What kind of question is that? Anyway, the conservative consensus was that the majority of US citizens were turned off by a political figure that came across as "too smart". Hmmm, I guess I like to think that the man, although he may simply be a figurehead, at the top of our government is highly intelligent. Well, if what the country wanted was someone who comes across as a simple everyday guy, I guess they nailed it with the Shrub. I'm not trying to start a flame war here at all, but IMO the guy is something of an embarrassment.

Both parties/groups are supported by big business, so it doesn't matter either way. Anyways, does anyone remember something similar to this, along the lines of allowing business to hack into an individuals computer(s) and see if they've been pirating stuff? I remember the bill was struck down quite soundly. Hopefully people will wake up again if this moves on to a bill.
