I must admit to being quite disillusioned by these comments.. then I read this.
There is a lot of talk on the boards. Some of it is exciting and some of it is just stupid and some of it is actually pretty mean. After spending two years of my life as a member of this community, I need to say some things. I am not defending this game so much as I am setting the record straight.
Some people are saying this game is not what they expected. That’s fine.
Some people are saying this game is going to fail. That’s wrong.
Some people are saying there is nothing to do.
Here is what I have to say on the matter.
Right off the top, I’m going to tell you that as of Friday, I thought the launch date was too early. I was ready to tell you that this game wasn’t ready for launch and that they were making a mistake. As of this morning (Sunday), I will tell you that I am awestruck by the performance changes I have seen in the last three days and that this game is ready to go.
The whole dev team is obviously working diligently every waking moment on this game and I imagine they are all suffering from the sweet floaty goodness of sleep deprivation and the fantasmagoria of coding on a caffeine high, which every good geek knows is “the sweet spot”.
I have to change my position because I logged on this morning and everything played beautifully. That’s right. We got ourselves an office full of super-creative guys wrapping up a dream project and tripping the mind fantastic and they are all focused on wrapping up this first phase of the game and launching it into the free market economy. These freaks are on a one way speed trip to June 26th and god help anything that gets in their way because I think dead bodies would start showing up in the dumpsters outside their offices if anyone got in their way at this point.
But lets look at this sensibly and plan from the worst case scenario, because things only get better from there. The devs may get the game completely debugged, but I believe it will only be “mostly” debugged and that’s ok with me. I am still going to buy the game and I’m going to blow my free month submitting bug reports and I gotta tell ya, I’ve been in since Beta 1, Day 1, minute 1 and Im sick and friggin tired of writing bug reports.
But that’s not going to stop me. It is surely going to stop others, but hey, as far as Im concerned its their loss.
Why?
Because I have had fun every single minute I have logged in to this game environment. Even when they were making server changes and we all hung out in the chat room and the boards, it was fun from beginning to end. Its _the people_ that will make every minute of the game worth every last penny.
On top of the constant, LIVE content that is going to be going on in this game, the game has such rich features in it now that there will be more than enough to keep you busy for six months. In that six months, we are going to see vehicles come in, more content and I know literally thousands of players that will be driving PvP events, role playing events, party events and every other event you can imagine. I know because its happening. Its happening right now with Beta testers and its going to keep on going.
Even still, the proof is in the pudding. As a long time commentator in this community, I have called the devs out every time I thought they were wrong and I’ve nearly avoided a bunch of trouble because of my big mouth. I believe in facing life honestly and without fear.
So without further adieu, lets get on with the visions and the mojo.
I have collected a great many screen shots and added some flavor text to let you know what was going on in the shot, why it was either fun or aggravating and YOU decide whether or not you want to be a part of this online phenomena.
Take a journey with me from Beta 1 to Beta 3 and see what I saw. See the hard work of the devs and all the changes they made at the requests of testers and see all the fun we had…
Here is my Vision Quest.
