TRIBES Vengeance Screenshots

Not much has been released in the way of TRIBES Vengeance artwork, but Sierra is making up for some lost time by releasing this batch of shots offering the game's logo along with some in game shots, concept art, and character renders showing off some of what's in the works at Irrational for the next installment in the online shooter series.

Well we're all very sorry if you can't figure out how to patch a game, but that's not really the game's problem...

For those who simply forgot Tribes 2 after the first initial out of the box nightmares, you should really grab that disc out of the garbage bin, load it up, install the latest update patch (yes I know its 80megs) and start playing tribes 2 classic or version 2

I had forgotten!! Back in post 19 I said I was gonna play it again that night... Ha! First off I couldn't download the neccesary auto patcher because the file was 404, then when I checked out planet-tribes.com for a patch to download manually, I took one look at the patches page and changed my mind about even attempting to get it up to date let alone play it. Good god! I mean... LOOK at this!! It's comedy! http://www.planettribes.com/tribes2/recfiles.shtml

Any way I put a little more effort tonight into figuring out which patch I needed and grabbed the appropriate patch. (version 21570 or 24834 to 25034) I tried to install it from a fresh CD install and the install process informed me that my "ispawn.exe is not a valid previous version." How hurting is that?! Man am I annoyed I payed for this game.

I enjoyed Tribes 2 a tremendous amount. It was a fantastic game. But when dynamix died and left us with a latest patch full of bugs the tribes franchise took a nose dive. This new tribes game looks great, but its an addon to an already declining franchise. Its like the latest Terminator Movie. Everyone though the second one was the end, and they shoulda left it at that. Now they bring this new movie out that has this spaced out storyline and basically makes the series take a dive. Anyways, I think Im gonna go install good ol' tribes 2 and play it up a bit. I'll keep an eye on this game though, it could turn out to be what the franchise needed. Hopefully its all new and doesnt just recycle off Tribes 2. Good move on the engine though, should put out some real nice graphics.

I think the longest working range of any rifle is about a mile these days, so it doesn't really matter.

Do you mean real life weapons? Or weapons from Tribes? Because if your talking about real life, you'd fall out of your chair if you knew the kind of range they get these days in the hands of the right military.

Well, given that the horizon on the earth is 5 miles away, that seems a reasonable distance to aim to draw at.

Mind you if the game is taking place on other planets it'll be different.

But at any number of miles you aren't actually going to see a player without looking through the sniper scope to start with.

I think the longest working range of any rifle is about a mile these days, so it doesn't really matter.

I can honestly say now that I enjoy playing Tribes 2 more now than Tribes 1. After playing Tribes 2 with all patches and on the classic mod, its just a bit more fun. Plus the use of bombers in the right game is a blast, satchels used right are a blast ...no pun intended, shocklance your favorite buddy is fun, and fying in with a shriek on a flag grab and run is far beter than the cheesy sluggish vehicle in tribes 1.

Yes Tribes 1 was cool. But you should really check out Tribes 2 again. Granted the bugs and hardware requirements killed its launch, but now with the final patched version and mods like classic, it is in some ways superior to Tribes 1.

And my god, if you still have a voodoo card and a Pentium 300 you really need to upgrade...

If Tribes:Vengeance was nothing more than Tribes2 with a higher polycount and better graphics, I'd still play it 6 hours a day. IMO T2 was and is the apex of online gaming.

Well said, I agree completely.

Your opinion is echoed by many. other than some early release compatibility issues which were quickly taken care of (albeit along with a very bad run of luck in getting said patches out) T2 had much more to offer over it's predecessor. The game tanked at retail because of a small but VERY vocal minority of T1 players who didn't have their collective asses kissed by Dynamix who, in turn, made design decisions that would allow more accessibility to the game for more casual players (God forbid) re; they removed skiing.

T2 ranks right up there as one of my all time favorite online games."

Right on. Couldn't agree more.

You jaded fuckers need some new eyes, coz those screenshots are pretty damn tight. Im not talking about the lack of pixel shading, or the poly count, or texturing (blah, blah) - but the general aesthetic. The whole look seems much more fleshed out and less goofy than T1 or T2. Plus those outdoor shots look about 200x better as well.

I bet this will be a good one. Too bad its not out for another damn year. There could be about 20 HL2 mods by then that will kick its ass.

True. Tribes 2 was alot more fun than the first. That was until Dynamix started listening to all the original tribes players and tried to cater to them rather than leave well enough alone. I really hope they don't try and clone the gameplay of the first. Old school gameplay like that (lone army dm style) isn't as fun as tactical squad based combat. Some people just don't like change.

These screenshots look crap... the only even *slightly* interesting shot is the one that features the sky. Graphically it looks very dated but there's still plenty of time to improve that. The most important thing is gameplay and if it's ANYTHING like Tribes 2 then it will be amazing. Tribes 2 is amazing fun... it's such a shame that it was never very successful. I guess they're hoping that this version will be more popular due to increase broadband uptake... please make this a good game.

thats the real problem dudes. They don`t want to be bothered with any kind of learning curve.
I myself had 2 really good friends turn me onto Tribes 1. They even brought me into MP and taught me how to play the game. And yeah it was pretty hard compared to other games in the ease of picking up on it department. But the rewards afterward made it all worthwhile.

I sure hope Devs don`t keep continuing to DUMBazz down their games cause of the lack of interest of players to earn their skills in actually learning to play a game. IMHO any game worth playing is gonna take some time to get a handle on, and we all take different amounts of time to get it under our belts.

Not sure, but I thought Tribes 2 was way better then Tribes 1, I just don't think the MOD community cared as much as they did, but the heart of Tribes 2 (the non-modded game) was awesome.

As for the visuals, Tribes 2 wasn't leading edge technology either. But Vengeance looks great to me. Starting from the left of the "real" screenshots I see these things that don't look too bad:

1) Flora that is more then 1 meter in front of you, should add live to the environments. The trees looks nice, and the sky, if nicely animated, would look nice as well. I do notice that the Spinfuser model doesn't look too hot, but seriously, did it ever really look great? If you think so go play T1 again

2) Indoor interior looks great, as do both the character models and stationary gun or inventory station.

3) Draw distance looks far, and seeing guys flying all over the sky would sure look nice in this scenario. Obviously the fog is for effect, not a limitation.

4) Texture design on the ground looks pretty crisp, and all those little crevaces of the map brings back memories of some of the good maps of Tribes.

5) Another good shot of the char models, looks better then the BF1942 models to me.

6 and 7) Both of those screenshots look wonderful to me. Dunno, maybe its because I can picture laying down ground and wall turrets all over the place. Number 7 in particular looks real good IMHO.

Don't really know why I'm ranting about screenshots, but I don't think it looks bad at all. Lets just hope its fun, because I'm getting bored with BF

CRAW: "I'm not seeing any HERCs in there...."

They're coming in an officailly sanctioned mod / add on. Originally being done for Ut2k3, Starsiege 2845 has been given the green light and official support from Sierra as a mod / add on for Tribes Vengeance:

nah, drawing distance was less than 1 mile. look at OFP for example. they use 900m draw distance as default and its a greater distance than in any tribes game. I dont think thats 500 feet btw, thats a lot more than that. 3 to 4 miles would be great, but I doubt they can do that without making the game eat P4 4Ghz's for breakfast. plus, it would be hell because everyone would use a snipergun to pop head from a safe distance and you wouldnt even be able to see them.
