Happy Friday the Thirteenth! This occasion got me thinking about how while I don't consider myself superstitious, there are many of these little beliefs that I am pretty unwilling to break with. I did live with Alex, a beloved black cat for several years, but otherwise am pretty reluctant to do anything like walk under ladders, spill salt, or leave a hat on the bed (I learned that one in Drugstore Cowboy). This all makes me wonder why it is that I don't consider myself superstitious. The first explanation that comes to mind is that I don't really believe in this stuff, but if that's the case, why do I even consider them, much less follow them? Oh well, I don't think I would think to hard on this one... it's probably bad luck.

In addition to Father's Day, MrsBlue's birthday also falls on this weekend, and to celebrate the occasion, we are taking a mini trip to Niagara Falls (slowly I turned...). The plan is to drive up today and back tomorrow (though it's possible we'll stay an additional day--it's a long haul), so there will be a catch-up update later today. If the fates (there's that superstition again) are smiling on this plan, today's news flow will follow yesterday's quietness, rather than the hectic pace of the couple of previous days, and otherwise our journey shouldn't interrupt the gentler pace things tend to take over the weekend.

Fang, yesterday was my birthday, too! The big 25, the year of the decreased life insurance. Good excuse for beer, grillin', and music. So Happy Birthday Fang!
