YEah RTR was awful, I never play it either and this new one sounds even worse. I got BF 1942 as I like prop planes, Tiger tanks and everything else about this era. So now we get to play WWII with jets/rocket packs/tanks that have MLRS attached and SAM's LOL What a joke. The schematics of these may have been drawn during the war but I just can't recall ever seeing GI Joe flying through the air with a rocket pack during the fall of Berlin. And I am convinced that the Nazis never had MLRS on their tanks during the battle of the bulge. And my Grandad says he never saw a single Nazi jet bomb the Uk during the war :p

Personally I think R2R totally blows. I absolutely never ever play it.

I also dont see how adding different vehicles/weapons/maps is such a big deal when you can get just as good (if not better) free mods like DC and EoD...

You think R2R was weak and that there isn't more then a few players on the servers?

I think he meant that servers that run non-official maps are very sparsely populated. As for R2R being weak I somewhat agree. It was really fun but it was an incredibly small amount of content that a lot devs/pubs would have released with a patch. Case in point TFC and RtCW, among others.

Are you serious? You think R2R was weak and that there isn't more then a few players on the servers?

Are you playing the same game as I am?

yes, this is not in-game footage, but simply some cut scene they threw together for the game intro

DUH!

hmm 20 dollars for new experimental vehicles, weapons, new maps, and a new game mode... not worth the money?

it appears i'm not the only one who thinks that adding a few BS futuristic weapons to the WWII setting is LAME. i will not buy this. no interest. and especially after that joke of an expansion 'road to rome'. -everything- about that expansion was weak.

at least we have desert combat, eve of destruction, and PLENTY of complete games that do everything BF1942 does.

EA should just sit back and crank out GOOD map packs, and they should have done this ages ago. it's such a drag (with exception of the most recent DC Map Pack) to get new, GOOD maps to play on. i was tired of the original BF1942 maps AGES ago, and with the exception of a few DC maps, found hardly any new maps to play on, with servers having more than a few players.

getting good new maps out to existing players should be a priority. not this BS 'what if' takes-away-from-the-reality-of-the-game secret weapons mod, which will no doubt be pricey, and NOT WORTH THE MONEY.

(and before you reply saying i'm pre-judging this, then think long and hard about road to rome, and how much you paid for it - [for those of us who do pay for games - warez kiddies need not reply])

I've always thought it would be cool if the jetpack was just a one-use thingy that shot you off the ground high enough, and with enough forward momentum that you could then just parachute down a good distance from where you took off.

Kinda like being shot out of a cannon, only without the cannon.. and a parachute instead of a safety-net. Oh, and instead of adoring fans, there are bad men with guns waiting for you when you land.

DICE as well as a few gaming sites that have played it say the rocket pack isn't going to be a big issue in the game. there will only be one per side and it can only go very short distances.

I'm pretty psyched they are going this route as just adding more historically accurate items is only going to push it further towards a simulation type game and theres plenty of those around already (not to mention a truckload of "hardcore WW2/modern warfare" style BF42 mods that are in the works).

Nevermind, it is a different one.

And I take that back about the movies being cool to watch. The charm of the stuff that they've done before was that it was all edited from in-game footage; this is just what will almost surely become the CGI intro to the expansion pack.

I have pretty grave reservations about the gameplay mechanics DiCE is adding here. I mean, rocketpacks? God only knows how this'll wind up being...hopefully it'll be good, but it could easily wind up being unplayed by hardcore BF1942 addicts.

Wasn't this already available on their site? Or is this a different one?

Either way, one thing's for sure: those bastards put some effort into their movies. They're not just a clip of some random stuff happening; they're tightly edited and always a blast to watch.

Edit: Well, I downloaded the one from Worthplaying and got sound, but no picture.
