Out of the Blue

Quboid dropped a line to mention the semi-hidden counter here had ticked off another fraction, and we have now served over a sixth of a billion visits over the years. There's still plenty of time to work out how to commemorate the billionth (even if we get Slashdotted a couple of times along the way), but it's been long enough since I expressed my appreciation for all the support you all have shown this site over the years that it seemed like an appropriate reminder to do just that. Thank you all so much! =]

First of all... Blue and his site are simply the best. I don't put half the time into playing games as I did ten years ago but I still go to this site first. I don't have the foggiest idea how the economics of the internet work these days but as far as I'm concerned, you deserve to make a very good living off this site.

Yes, you are absolutely correct. Adrian Carmack coined the term "gibs" from the word "giblets" and hence a soft "g". Personally I say even if he mis-pronounced gibs and mistakenly had said it with a hard "g", when someone coins a phrase they kinda get to decide what the proper pronunciation is. Much life "GIF" is correctly pronounced "jiff" even though it is an acronym for "Graphics Interchange Format". The guys who invented the term get to choose the pronunciation even if it isn't entirely logical to you or me.

I switched over to Blue's a few years ago when VE3D started slacking up, and was certainly impressed by Blue's consistent and no-bull reporting.

For having the ingenuity to come up with Blues News, from The Quake Rag to today. IMO, it is "THE" model of what a gaming and information site should be. And yes I think you should put up a "Click to Donate" button. I'd click it!!!

THANKS AGAIN BLUE!!!!!!

Thanks for putting up with all of us blue (or at least me), Im sure you'll reach the 1/4 mark in no time.
On a different note, I had to start writing in cursive again when I was taking a russian class and it was actually kind of a welcome relief to the boring (and scribbly) writing I normally use for note-taking in class.

Did anyone else find the monster trucks strange, yet intriguing?

There's a registry key you can edit but I'm buggered if I can remember what it is.

It's a shame that Comcast installs all that crap on your box. I don't think it's even necessary if you are running XP. All you need is a log on id and password, the OS can handle the rest.

I can't write in cursive anymore. Anything but my signature is a long, painful process, pausing to think out each letter before I type it. I was showing my son how to write his name in cursive the other day, and it was... traumatic.

That Monster Trucks link was pretty freaking unbelievable. I never saw so much chrome in one place in my life. And then I got to the nighttime pictures... woo! Wonder what kind of batteries they've got powering those?

I really think the best approach to Freddy is to ignore him. Completely. No cutting remarks, no matter how clever the retort. No inclusion of him in our sig lines. Just act as if the idiot doesn't even exist. Maybe then he'll... I dunno, get a life or something.

Eh? I always thought we wrote in cursive over here in Britain and most of the rest of the world as well. Is there something different to it?

Do a "*.*" (w/o the quotes) search of your drive and than sort by date. I bet you'll find it there...

honestly, my signature isn't even cursive, nor was it ever intended to be. i still write all the time, but cursive? forget about it. tuck it away as an art form now, but it's surely not needed in today's world. some people have really nice writing styles, though, so i'd hate to see it go away completely.
