Enemy Territory Server Patch Plans

Activision sends along word that the folks at Splash Damage are at work on a server-side patch for Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory to address a couple of issues that have been identified in the free Wolfenstein game:
We are in the process of tracking down and fixing issues that can lead to a server crashing. This includes servers halting with z_Malloc errors due to a memory leak and access violations following multiple msg_Overflow messages in the log file.

We are currently testing a patch on public servers at Splash Damage, id Software and Activision. Providing this patch remains stable, we hope to release it to Server Administrators within the coming week. This would be a server-only patch and would not need to be installed by players.

We'd like to say thank you for the continued support that we are receiving from Server Administrators in helping us track down this issue.

Yeah if the medics good (a la me, ahem ) they can hit top exp, thats when they get really powerfull, as they can keep a small fireteam in tact, or often the entire team, if he keeps running and has a little luck.

Also cap out on battle sense and medic skill, and then develop heavy weapons, switch back to the medic and go arm a machine gun post for some real nastyness!

Although i didnt know about covering the smoke, do u have to lie prone on it? I guess you learn something new everyday!

By far one of the better games to come out. Great to hear the reason why medics shoot me when i'm almost dead... although usally i'll hit fire and respawn just from frustration. Also along these lines of things we don't like to see in the game... i've seen medics that just start chopping people up in the start of the game so they can get exp faster. That dosn't help the team and usally get's complaints filed. I do have to agree that I don't seem to see lots of complaints filed on even public servers.

actually if you time it right, you can prone on the smoke and there won't be bombing, they can't see the signal. I've had it work a couple times, but I also got there too late and was bombarded as well.

YMMV

Hehe, well my first day I had no idea what the colored smoke was and couldn't figure out how to tell how those damn airstrikes kept raining out of nowhere. I bet field ops had a day like no other on day 1.

Actually it's a day like every other day for the field op.

Like I said, it's only when I give up on being revived (no one else around, etc.).

Lamb, it's guys like you that make being a medic tough. I run across a whole map dodging bullets one side to the other only to have the biatch respawn as I'm shoving a needle into his arm.

ARRGHGGH that's annoying.

"HAHAHAAHAA! Like moths to a flame!! Not sure, does airstrike work the same way? If they chase the pretty smoke, and get blown to bits, can they file a complaint against you for sending in an airstrike? LMAO!! This is the only game I've ever played where I want to bind a key to "RTFM!!". "

Hehe, well my first day I had no idea what the colored smoke was and couldn't figure out how to tell how those damn airstrikes kept raining out of nowhere. I bet field ops had a day like no other on day 1. But yes you can get griefed for airstriking people, and rightly so. I actually think the grief system is pretty good. People rarely use it against each other but the fact that you are presented with the option every time keeps any aholing in check.

I was playing last night on a server that limited the player's number of lives. Every time I gave up on being revived, a stupid text box popped up reminding me that my lives were limited and asked me to confirm. WTH? I can understand maybe once, but every time??? I kept missing the next wave of spawning. Anyway to turn this off? Thanks for any replies.

Also, when you hit top level medic you can revive people at top health. Ive explained to people numourous times that if they call for a medic and have little life left then im goign to shoot them and revive them, far faster and more efficient that way. But they still file a complaint!!

Sad, but true. I've noticed that the n00bs may be a little intimidated to be thrust so cruelly into a warlike envirnment, and they react defensively, striking out the only way they can. The power of the complaint department!!! Even if someone torches me from behind, or Panzerfausts me, I very very rarely would file a complaint. Shit happens. Only if the same guy is repeatedly killing me will I ever file one. But some seem to think every single time you're teamkilled, it warrents a complaint even if it was your own stupidity that got you killed.

As to the medic thing, I know what you mean. LOL, just remember their names and, like a medic nazi, "NO HEALTH FOR YOU!!!!"

LOL

If you can't file a complaint against a teammate whose mine you got blown up by, what's to stop jerks from constantly mining the crap out of places where teammates can't help but run over them?

You have a point, but still, the mines have to be planted outside and in soft soil, so you cant really mine a doorway that effectively. Also, if it's a mine from your teammate, you can see the flag that shows where it is, and if you look at your compass, it shows up as a big huge blip, bigger than 3 people clustered together.

Yeah, the 'killed teammate' when someone runs over a mine is a little annoying, And should be removed. But other then that, the best game I have played in quite awhile.

This was my one and only gripe/problem with this game. These guys are good.

Now, if only n00bs would sort themselves out and stop crying that I team killed them when they ran over the pretty little flag in the ground, all would be well in the world...
