Games on Trial

Jack is back, as Lawyer aims to take over murder case (thanks HomeLAN Fed) is a story reporting that lawyer Jack Thompson, outspoken in previous efforts at correlating violent crimes with the use of violent video games, is back in the news. Here's a bit:
Jack Thompson of the Miami suburb of Coral Gables said he will ask Medina County Common Pleas Court today for permission to defend Dustin Lynch, now 16, in the November slaying of JoLynn Mishne.

Thompson, in communications over the last seven months with the families of Lynch and Mishne and with the courts and lawyers, has continually raised the possibility that Lynch was driven to kill by his excessive playing of aggressive games. Thompson has urged Lynch's current lawyer, V. Lee Winchell of Rittman, and a previous one, John Dolatowski of Medina, to consider video games in Lynch's defense, but neither did so.

God its about time somebody did something about these evil video games... my son Timmy smashed his head through a window pain yesterday and yelled out 'daddy, daddy, where's the reset button?'

Kids these days, all they want to do is play videogames. What is it? The Degeneratron? What a crock of shit!

but here goes anyway...note, I have no scientific evidence to back this up, this is only a theory...

I think more people die because of guns then they do because of games.

There, I've said it...Guess I must be wrong though, because all these smart lawyer types and government types have decided it's the games.

Oh well, as soon as I finish making my rail gun I'm going after them.

It's doubtful that the judge will take off the court appointed lawyer for some guy from Florida (who isn't licensed in Ohio). It would just waste the taxpayer's money they spent on the first one and the would still have to find local counsel to represent "pscyho fun boy" with JT. If he really had the Ohio Public Defender ready to step in with him, then THEY would be making the request. This jackass just wants to get in the newspaper and the local media has to have some new twist for the Tragic Story of the Moment to keep selling papers.

All media affects us.

But a lot of it seems to be down to the mind in question.

Younger people are more susceptible to stuff, hence we have ratings for films and we should have tighter ratings on games.

I see a number of folk stating that it isn't games that are to blame, but the media - especially the news media - have a worrying effect on viewers.

Now apart from being confused about how many early teenagers watch the news these days, I don't see why one form of media doesn't affect you but another does.

Personally I think that all media , from books upwards, affect people in profound but subtle ways. It is clearly ludicrous to say that games cause murder/manslaughter. I think it is equally ludicrous and harms the industry to say that games have no effect on people's psychological makeup.

Perhaps someone should do something about frivilous lawsuits promulgated by retarded ambulance chasers, since those seem to be doing more to promote violent death than video games?

Well, at least the other two defense attorneys were smart enough to ignore Thompson's rambling. There is some hope... if we could just get the media to behave rationally and ignore morons with unfounded half wit theories. On second thought, there *is* no hope...

Murder is (dictionary.com) "The unlawful killing of one human by another, especially with premeditated malice." How can anyone say with a straight face that crushing someone's skull and then stabbing them many times is anything other than murder?

Why is this guy telling kids that it's okay to kill people, it's the entertainment industry's fault?

how come they dont have kids shooting up schools or killing each other like they do here in the US...

Actually, they do. Or rather, in China for example, they use axes...
In Germany some fucker went into a local college and shot 18 people, I believe this happened a little over a year ago. Only there the whole argument was about the guy being a member of a gun club (ie, a place where he could practice shooting and such), and the whole riot was about that.

This kind of shit happens everywhere, it's just that (seemingly) only in the US games get blamed for it.

With our BFG-3000s of course! I just used mine to wipe out the whole block...

Personally I don't believe the kid was a game player. He must have been addicted to the FOOD NETWORK...that must be what drove him to use the kitchen knife on that chick after he tenderized her skull. Ban the FOOD network! Our children are being programmed for violence!

I wish these dipshit attorneys would lose their reputation and jobs when they try to pass off this bullshit as fact or grounds to place the blame anywhere else but where it belongs. They need to be laughed out of the court rooms.

US isn't the only country exposed to violent video games... what about Japan, or Korea... how come they dont have kids shooting up schools or killing each other like they do here in the US...

They play the same games we do... they watch the same movies that we do... they listen to the same music that we do... so why is it that here in America we have so much violent crime being commited by young people...

hmmm... he played video games alot?? no way... you don't say... wow... thats so weird huh... OR maybe its because mom and pop are TOO BUSY working their 2nd jobs just to keep a roof on their house and dont have enough time to be with their kids...

``Whatever happened (in JoLynn's death), it was not murder,'' Thompson wrote in a news release. ``The American video industry must share the blame.''

To that I have one thing to say...

BULLSHIT!!!

His parents need to wake up and accept the fact that they F'ed up raising their kid, and share the blame... rather than hire some scumbag attorney and have him come up with some crap about playing 'Violent Video Games'... my god... I just want sit in front of all of them and bitch slap them into reality...

whatever....

amen Creston.

While we're considering game-ways to take him out I'll lend my personal method.

In the spirit of duke3d, lay a pipe bomb trap outside his front door. When he comes out, blow them and watch how high he goes. During his airtime I would be in a blackhawk from Desert Combat with the minigun lighting him up. There'd be a sea of laser tripmines in his landing zone so when he falls down a chain reaction of trip mines vaporize what is left of him at that point.

We could make this into a game. If we were crazy psycho killer gamers how would we take this bastard out?
