I only learned lately that you're not meant to drive with your foot on the clutch the whole time. I'm in the UK, so most of us drive stick shift cars. Apparently you're not meant to rest your foot on the clutch pedal, and should keep it on the floor when not using the clutch. Apparently they can fail you on your test for doing it, which is why I'm intrigued that my driving instructor (actually one of the best in the country - he's been on TV loads for it, weird!) never told me not to do it.
My car cuts out at about 30mph in first gear, or 60 in 2nd gear. Either of those is about equal to 6000 rpms, which the car doesn't seem to like!
