Elder Scrolls III: Bloodmoon Gold

The Elder Scrolls III: Bloodmoon Goes Gold is the press release announcing that Bethesda Softworks' new expansion for Morrowind has gone gold (thanks Worthplaying). Word is the RPG add-on will ship to stores the first week of June, and here's a bit more: "You'll have a choice of stories to follow and have the opportunity to defend the colony, take control over how the colony is built up, and eliminate the werewolves. Or, you can decide to join the werewolves and become one of them, opening up a whole new style of gameplay. Bloodmoon can be played by any character at any time, whether you are just starting, in the middle of, or have already finished the main quest of Morrowind and/or the Tribunalâ„¢ expansion."

Same here. That slider was maxed ages ago.

The courtyard would be a very unfortunate place to be in if Gaenor had levitation or better AI.

Btw, there is a difficulty slider in the game which you could use if you think your char is too high... I haven't tried it though.

I've had that slider at 100 since I reached level 20

Have you seen how much luck that little bugger's got? 255 base, and a 500 point permanent fortification (I had a poke in the editor). Those "Damage Luck" spells suddenly become very useful

hmmmm, so you say it's the shadows hu? Well I wouldn't be suprised, I have everything on max, (even dowloaded a mod to extend the viewing distance) so it's no wonder i only got 30-40 fps outside. Gonna try to turn off the shadows, see how much more i get. Thx

That Gaenor in Tribunal was ludicrously hard. I had to take a cheap way out to beat him: I used an agility scroll to jump on the temple roof then launched about 100 poison bloom (area effect) arrows at him. That was the only way I could even hit him, since my archer specialist with 100 marksman could only hit him directly once every ten times or so, and he'd regenerate his health in between hits. Even the end boss was easier.

Yes, the pause is loading, not copy protection. I hate the automatic connections people draw like "copy protection = bad performance" or "dailupper on server = everyone has bad ping". If you're going to criticize, learn the topic and criticize real problems, not the convenient connections you can draw.

Having said that, copy protection in Morrowind is problematic and I slightly improved my framerate with a crack.

Well, I must've gotten lucky cause my character who owned in the main MW game has had plenty of challenging moments in Tribunal. Finally defeating that troublesome Gaenor was rather rewarding. Btw, there is a difficulty slider in the game which you could use if you think your char is too high... I haven't tried it though.

And as for framerate, on my Athlon XP 1.53GHz w/ GF4 Ti4200 the game runs fine at 1600x1200, or 1280x1024 w/ Quincunx antialiasing. Yeah, it's not going to get the same framerate as Quake 3, but it doesn't need to either.

As far as I know, the pauses every 30 seconds or so is to load a new outdoor cell, not copy protection. Even with a crack you'd still get loading pauses.

Yup something like that, they add a great deal to the game. But then you could also goto some of the more dedicated sites that have mods and whatnot. Not to mention going to the morrowind forum and checking out the "mod" section and seeing everything that is in the works, alot of really talent people that's for sure.

I hope my guy is gonna meet some resistance for once

It's way too easy to max out your skills in this game (It's no Diablo II.) My last character went through five months in Morrowind and then absolutely owned in Tribunal. Deprived of challenge and relevant skills to improve, there was no longer any sense of self-progression and achievement. It was just me the demi-god helping out a besieged capital.

I'll be wiping the slate clean for Bloodmoon.

I never noticed that copy protection, but I didn't get the game until it came bundled with a graphics card I got, so maybe one of the later patches took care of that?

Yeah, the shadows are a killer. But like I said, I just turned them off and the game ran fine and I really didn't miss them. I played my knight character all the way through most of the side-quests, but now I'm starting a thief character and finding it actually rather difficult. Oh well.

Yeah, I know about the mods. The game's still pretty fun, but I could never get an effective sneaky character.

Thieves can be tough to play, my first character was a thief and it was harder than a regular fighter but getting a good weapon and sneaking around backstabbing things is cool. And leveling up your sneak skill is as easy as sneaking up behind someone and taping down the sneak key and leaving for a few hours. Although I never actually did this. For the security skill just go around opening everything you can, and of course you could just make lots of money and buy up those skills. I won't argue with your criticisims of lack of NPC routines (always funny when they tell you they must be going). And there is an offical mod for ambient sounds outside and some unoffical ones that are even better, going as far as to change them based on where you are and what time of day it is.

At first, I loved Morrowind, but I gradually found out how shallow it was. The game lacks atmosphere and depth. There are no ambient sounds and the NPCs have not rountines. You can always find Bob at the Corner pub, no matter what time of day. I also found the combat system quite simplistic. But the worst thing was the game balance. I found it damn impossible to play through the game as anything but a warrior. Mage/wizards are ocasionally effective but it's impossible to get anywhere playing as a thief. The game is much too combat oriented and your thiefy skills are very difficult to increase. Still, its a fairly good game, with pretty graphics, a good story and lots of stuff to do. The editor is also very nice, although the scripting language is feeble (no modulus operator! #!@$#@%@#%@!).

They ever lose the shitty copy protection? I just bought Tribunal and fired up MW to try it out. I had forgotten about the 'walk 60 seconds and pause for cd check' feature. Kind of annoying. I could always crack it, but then I have to keep doing that when it gets patched.

To #7:
Your computer must be really screwed up. I have literally half of the power that you have (1 ghz processor, GeForce2 card) and I get a really good framerate at 1024x768x32 with visibility set to max. The thing that causes the slowdowns are the real-time shadows. That was really slowing me down, so I turned them off, and got a big performance jump, and didn't really miss them at all.

With my setup, the game only slows down when I'm in a big city like Balmora, but when I'm cruising around the countryside, the framerate is fine and the graphics are beautiful!

I just picked this game up a few weeks ago. I've lots of FPS, but only a few FPS RPGs (Deus Ex, for example) and I love this game. It's sucked me in like few games have. I've barely even touched the main quest I've been having too much fun just "trudging around". This is easily one of the most immersive games I've ever played.

I can't wait to try out the FIRST expansion!

Bloodmoon just adds another island, kind of like Tribunal, which isn't enough content for a game I played for months. Morrowind 2 is what I want, with an entire continent to roam around in.

I agree, I want a whole new game with a whole new engine. But Bloodmoon should be pretty good. I've done a lot of reading on it, previews, interviews, etc, and it sounds like it's more than twice as big as Tribunal, plus returns to the free form wandering of the orriginal Morrowind instead of the fairly linear Tribunal. I'll be picking this one up asap.
