Robocop Demo

Dead or alive, you're coming with me, as the Robocop Website now offers a playable demo of the PC game based on the exploits of the cinematic cyborg cop. The demo is a 24 MB download that's gone unnoticed for the last month until spotted by Gamer's Hell, where they have provided a mirror. The demo offers one level.

Although the very occasional game has issues binding the ALT key, I've used A,S,D,ALT for a few years now (thumb rests on the ALT key), and found it by far the most comfortable arrangement for me. I generally then use W as a use key, Q and E for leaning or other useful bindings, SPACE for jump, CTRL/C for crouching, etc, etc...

I tried WASD during my early Quake days but my fingers just didn't fit properly over it. Since then I've been using QWES which fits my hand like a glove. Comfort is paramount IMO.

Back before I started using the Nostromo N50, my keys were, insert, home, pgup, del, end, pgdn. I used enter or backslash for jumping and the right arrow for crouch. Weird but not unheard of I guess.

I have to say i a m a die hard wasd user, only because that allows me to assign keys to the shift/control/alt keys. Then you can use these and not be restricted to the 2 key max on most keyboards.

Yeah indiv I've been thinking of switching because of that too.

But anyway, I use left ctrl as primary fire (pinky), left shift as secondary fire (ring finger), z for left (middle finger), then x for right (index), thumb can go space or left alt.

Then because I have thumb buttons on my mouse I use them for jump and usually some game specific function. Like I said mouse1 forward, mouse2 back, middle scroll is switch weapon, middle scroll click is reload.

Don't ask me why I opted to go this way. Been doing it since Quake and it's hard to change. I'm happy with it though, like I said only reason I would change is wasd always being the default and I'm lazy.

I used to have my own pimp controls setup but somewhat recently I switched to wasd because I got so sick of rebinding the keys for every single game I played. I wish the industry could come up with some sort of standard key file (like an xml document) so you can import controls from other games.

Hey, ain't nothin' wrong with Data East's cool 1990 arcade version of Robocop. Hell, they even put it in "Robocop 2," which although not much compared to the original is still pretty entertaining. Robocop 3 and Robocop: The Series were both worse than AIDS on a Monday, however.

Robocop 1 is my favorite movie of all time (say what you want). Why has everything they've done with the franchise since been utter shit? They should just quit it, unless they're gonna drag the original screenwriters and Paul Verhoeven back and do it properly.

I think any game based on Robocop would be crap, anyways. He can't even run.

Best thing to do in my opnion is buy a mouse with a ton of extra buttons. then mucho clicko, = mucho killo!

but using z for right and x for left is waaay to confusing for me.

Man, a friggin' aces license like Robocop, and they turn it into a late 90's-level blur-fest. Is this a port of the upcoming PS2/XBox game that just happened to come out before what it's porting? I knew there was a Robocop game coming out for those eventually. This game's too "clean" looking or something. Also, Robo's interface should have more crap going on, just for atmosphere. A game with a license this caliber deserved more.

How do you fire?

There's an article in a recent UK PC Gamer in defense of using the cursor keys instead of WASD. There's a certain logic to it, but for most games there just aren't enough keys near to your movement directions to easily perform all the functions the game allows.

These days I'm using Q and E to cycle through my inventory. It works really well. (I've never been much of a leaner).

I don't know what everyone is complaining about. It's a great game. Who knew they'd still be porting PS1 games to the PC in 2003?

You know selling dlc before you patch the client doesn't impress upon me the need to support your shit. -massdev
