Evil Genius

Vivendi Universal Games' Evil Genius Website (thanks VE3D) unveils plans for this project in the works at Elixir Studios. Here's a bit from the press release that describes the unusual twist in this strategy game that puts the player in the role of the bad guy:
Vivendi Universal Games (VU Games) announced today that the PC Strategy / Simulation game Evil Genius will be shown behind closed doors at the 2003 Electronic Entertainment Expo held at the Los Angeles Convention Center, May 14-16. Evil Genius is being developed by London-based Elixir Studios, and is scheduled for a Q3 2004 release.

This unique Strategy / Simulation game is a tongue-in-cheek take on popular 1960s spy franchises such as Austin Powers, James Bond and Our Man Flint, but with a twist: Evil Genius offers the player the chance to play as a villain himself and control a secret island base complete with nefarious henchmen, loyal minions and a wide collection of gadgets, gizmos and traps.

I'd like to see something like "The Incredible Machine" welded to this concept. Only instead of goals all focused on lighting up rockets or letting mice out of cages or whatever, you'd have to use various components to build overly-elaborate, easily-escapable unsupervised superspy killing machines.

It's about time they make a Real Genius game...why it's been years. Just think of it. You and Val Kilmer can run around blowing up shit, while Val teaches you how to be popular and score with women...

er...wait....Evil Genius?

Sounds a bit like Dungeon Keeper, which was a fun game.

Ofcourse, they do need to make sure that there is actually something to DO besides just building that base, which was always Dungeon Keeper's problem.
