Ummm.. heart disease is the number 1 killer in America, and the main causes of it are cholesterol and trans-fats. So yeah, the 450 billion Oreos that people have eaten have certainly contributed the the heart disease body-count over the years. I think that the FDA should certainly require food-makers to note the amounts of trans-fats that are in their products. It's bad stuff and people need to be aware of what they're putting in their bodies.

If this seemingly silly lawsuit helps bring awareness up to the point where people demand that the FDA get off its collective ass and update the labeling requirements, then it will be worth it.

Corporations can't regulate themselves because the bottom line always comes first, so the gubment has to.
Obesity has a massive negative economic and lifestyle (physical and mental health) impact on society, and it has to be dealt with.
Most people aren't aware of the problem or are too lazy to care (because they're obese), so someone has to do something.
Also, you have to remember this suit is in part at trying to get corporations to change how they target children through advertising as well. It's pretty slimy how they go about it now.
They're not trying to ban Oreo's, just trans-fats, which is a good thing.

C'mon, no idiot is really going to try to outlaw Oreos. This guy has another agenda that seems to be working 100%. Look at ALL the publicity this has generated. It's been a couple of days already and it's still running in the papers and the network news shows. They're all doing spots on trans fats and how to avoid them, why they're bad for you. This guy was after publicity, period. Now whether he was trying to get some money out of Nabisco (the bad press is KILLING them right now) or really wanted to draw people's attention to how bad Oreos are for you I have no idea.

because, it's a whole lot easier to just complain constantly... plus you get the benefit of blaming someone *else* for your own laziness! how great is that! i work with people like that. the best part is they hate to see people doing something about it (going to school, looking for a new job, etc...) because it makes them feel even worse to see someone with a plan, escaping their own self-induced hell. i pity them as i watch their faces when i tell them what they need to do to get out of their own 'hell'... you can see their brain imagining all that hard work and effort, then their tiny whiny inner-child crying that "NO! I CAN'T DO IT! IT'S JUST TOO HARD!!!"

but hey, this world is difficult, and full of traps for the lazy, indulgent, and unwary. it's no wonder so many people whine.

Randy Cassingham (of This is True publication) has started this great newsletter which is both entertaining and illuminating with regards to the problem of frivolous lawsuits. It's generated interesting discussion too. I recommend any of y'all who get riled about this sort of thing check out the newsletter, it's often quite funny, and all true (with bibliography included in each issue).

Ban the sale of Oreo's because they're bad? How 'bout we ban CIGARETTES first? Its not like people can become poisoned from second-hand Oreo eating, by sitting in the same room as someone eating Oreos.

Yup, that did it. Following up on imrworldwide.com, these guys are a spam/spyware company in the purest form. Guys I would highly recommend blocking *.imrworldwide.com, *.redsheriff.com to your firewalls or add them to your HOSTS file.

I looked at the source of the page and found the offending applet code pointing to server-us.imrworldwide.com, so I put this line in my HOSTS file:

127.0.0.1 server-us.imrworldwide.com

No more spyware (or whatever the [cr]applet was doing), and my scrolling doesn't mysteriously cut out half-way down the page anymore (I think it was also causing my MP3 player to stutter- as I noticed that problem went away too).

Whoever was getting the ActiveX warnings, I wonder if this would solve your problem as well.
