- I never viewed DS as a "deep" RPG; I viewed it more as a fleshed out Diablo-type game. Although nowhere near as popular, I think DS is a far superior game.
- I enjoyed DS a lot. Although a bit repetitive, I found it highly addictive. I never played the game for any significant chunk of time, but I played it in little spurts here and there.
- I love DS's graphics and general look. Ssoooooooooo many games did the old, tired "2D in grids" look, but DS was 3D, had multiple planes, multiple paths, improved lighting effects, etc.
- I though that DS was great for what it streamlined into the gameplay: interface, pack mules, switching equipment, inventory management, etc.
- I think that the leveling up process was great in its simplicity. I can enjoy both types of games, but I had played so many of the "deep" stat RPGs that it was nice to actually level up based on what my character atually did versus reaching the magical barriers in the sky, suddenly learning any one magical thing that I chose.
Smirking at the "learned economics" of the DS engine ;),

Edit: "barries" + "r" = "barriers"
