I, for one, subscribe to fileplanet. Why? NOT because it gives me the options to download files first. While I enjoy being able to download files at 250k/s without delay, and I enjoy being able to participate in beta tests before a game is released, my main purpose for being on fileplanet is the sheer amount of files in their database. Trailers, Demos, Patches, mods, it's all there, indexed in a way that's very convenient for me to get to. Want to know what mods are out for UT? BAM, done. Does NOLF2 have a new patch? BAM, done. Any hot new underrated demos out? Wow, never heard of this, lets get it! BAM, done.

It's a plethora of gaming files that I can access quickly and easily anytime I want. Yeah, it's worth $50 per year to me. Oh, and the free 2-year subscription to Stuff is nice

so you're saying a company which used to offer you their services for free is evil for attempting to charge for it now. You think they should just lose tons of money at your mercy. Would you rather go back to the days of no online demos at all and everyone has to wait for the magazine cover mounted CD?

I just download from whoever is free. Sometimes it takes longer. I got the Chaser demo the same day it came out from 3D Gamers. I just started the download and then went out and had dinner. Came back about an hour and a half later and had the demo. I don't like GameSpy just on principle. GameSpy Arcade SUCKS! It sucks so bad it's painful!! Why can't they make a decent client like All-Seeing Eye or something? It certainly isn't for lack of money!

I'm not angry or anything, but your whole post nearly focused just on getting a demo a couple days earley. But I find that when it's released everywhere, especially if it's a popular game, most free faster servers can get bogged down for the day.

I'm just saying that paying a little a year so that you can dl a demo right away on a server that isn't being overrun doesn't really feel like I am being ripped off. I'm still not doing it at the moment though.

But places like 3Dgamers nowadays when a demo comes out, it's hard to get any fast dls from them. That's why I gave up on the Chaser demo.

You have to agree that when a real popular demo is released that your not going to usually find a free site that isn't already overloaded. Then some kind people will upload the demo on their site for free and post a link in forums like here for gamers, but soon enough too many people know about that too.

Do you remember what happened when 3D Mark 2003 was released, all hell broke loose.

Any company that wants my business will make available to me the same info/demos, etc. that they do to suscribers sites, or it'll result in them not getting my business.

The odds are stacked against them from the outset anyway. It's a heavily competitive industry and games are a vastly overpriced luxury. This means most people are pretty selective in what they buy. The publisher really has to work to get my dollars. Expecting that I'll pay someone else to get what really amounts to no more than advertising in the first place (that's what any specialized "journalism" is), just isn't going to happen.

LOL no I am not missing the point.. and lol if you want to play to get a demo a couple days before the rest of the public.. well more power too ya lol

fileplanet used to be free man.. and they can suck my you know what as far as I am concerned .. there are tons and tons of highspeed download servers that are still free..

I have used File planet maybe 2x in the past year and a half. .cause they suck frigging wait to download or pay - NOT! kiss my gritz

There are tons of gamers out there that can afford to offer this stuff for free... and do so.. and will continue to do so... one of the guys in my clan went out and got us a second public CS server is he charging us or you to play on that server NO! and he is paying out his own pocket... I would do the same if I could afford too.. MMORPGS are different cause your actually paying the programmers to modify and improve the game on a regular basis.. so I can understand the fee there..

Companies are becomming greedy money grabbing pricks.. plain and simple.. anytime someone thinks of a new angle.. hook or crook..some idiot trys to corner the market on it... the majority of the internet is free and needs to stay that way and I will fight every company that tries to take the pub to the cleaners.. they just suck .. plain and simple... and will not get my business.. lol

LOL - pay so you can get a demo of a game that is still in beta probably (most demos are they just don't lable them as betas lol) just so you can get it a couple days early lololol.. man you must have rocks in your head hehe..

Sorry not trying to piss ya off here .. but it is funny hehe

Your missing the point of paying. If I was a memeber to fileplanet or gamespot when the chaser demo came out or other demoes, I would have been dling it at full speed on their fast servers that I am helping to pay for. Instead I found that most public places were overloaded where it was so busy it took a while to get a spot and then it was only going at 18k and getting slower, so I gave up. It cost money to provide the best and gauranteed fast dls.

Also, fileplanet gets demos sometimes a couple days before anyone else. Gamespot has a lot of exclusive videos too.

I'm not paying paying for any service right now, but it sounds worth it. I mean it's NOT like Gamespot is $10 a month, it's only 24.95 a year, that's only 2 dollars a month. That's worth the fast access to demos a exclusive videos or their video reviews.

Also, BLuesnews often links news to other sites, like to Gamespot, IGN, Gamespy, so I bet if none of the more larger sites existed, bluesnews would be a little more empty, or he'd then have to start hosting all the news, like screens, videos, and demos and then you'd see a lot more adds to pay for it and fee for exclusive fast servers.

Yup screw you gamespot!

I will not subscribe to a web page and pay to get the same news that Blues News so graciously offers for free.

Any sites requiring a subscription fee to download a demo can go screw itself.. I am glad that it has been released to a site that will allow downloads for free.

I hate gamespy now as well as fileplanet.. which are one and the same now but fileplanet was free till they hooked up with the crappy company called gamespy - which I might add used to be a decent company and webpage too... till Gamespy Arcade came out.. hell I sign up for a life time for Gamespy 3d.. and they want me to pay again.. lolol.. that is when they lost me... by screwing me over.. new prod or not they should have grandfathered Gamespy 3d accounts into Gamespy Arcade accounts.. that would have been the prudent thing to do... File planet.. well they can just jump in a lake... I never "NEVER" download from them anymore

OH well .. I now hope they go out of business so I can toast to their downfall..

Woot!!!

Yes this is a neg post but I am totally against these co's that think they can take everyone to the cleaners

Its all about these new "top secret codecs" they're using for graphics. the .gm1 codec (firefly, england) compresses .gif animations 1:10.
