Simon & Schuster Interactive sends word that EVE Online: The Second Genesis
has shipped to retail in North America, and that the game has gone live. Here's
the deal:
Simon & Schuster Interactive, the digital entertainment unit of Simon & Schuster Inc. announced today Crowd Control Productions' (CCP), highly anticipated massive multiplayer online game (MMOG) "EVE Online: The Second Genesis" has shipped to retail in North America and will be arriving at retailers over the next several days (Rated "T" by the ESRB; $49.95 estimated street with one month online time included).
This morning EVE became a living, breathing universe as the servers were turned on at 9 AM GMT. Gamers will be settling 'The New Eden' over the next few days as corporations, freelancers and many others begin their journey in this unique, open-ended universe.
Nope, they'll have to be mounting weapons on their ships and carrying ammo in their cargo holds instead of mounting mining lasers.
It's possible to use mining drones (however inefficient compared to mining lasers) and fill your slots with weapons, or vice-versa (scout drones and mining lasers). Also some ships like the Tristan have launcher-only slots, which you can't put mining lasers on. But by and large if you're mining, you only have mining equipment fitted, and even if not, you're just going to run at the first sign of danger. --yrns
