Yes, I do take myself too seriously. It's one of my many character flaws. Eh, I can live with it.
My major point was that Blizzard has a reputation for producing quality games and that therefore WoW is likely to be a quality game. Whether or not you like said game is an entirely different matter. I think Warcraft III is an excellent game... but I still prefer Starcraft. My preference, however, doesn't diminish WC3's quality by any means.
Everquest is a good example of a POOR quality game that people actually LIKE. Quality, unfortunately, has nothing to do with whether or not people like something. People love reality television...even though most of it is complete crap. There's no accounting for people's tastes... or lack thereof.
When I was 16 I wrote a little wrestling game in BASIC. To say it was simplistic would be a vast overstatement. Each turn it let the player pick a move to execute... but the moves did nothing. The game was no more sophisticated than a coin flip... and yet my friends (all of them wrestling fans) played that things for HOURS. They imagined that the game had all this depth that it simply didn't have. Basically my friends couldn't tell the difference between chocolate and dog crap.
It appears my childhood friends have multiplied and populated the Internet.
