Yes, I do take myself too seriously. It's one of my many character flaws. Eh, I can live with it.

My major point was that Blizzard has a reputation for producing quality games and that therefore WoW is likely to be a quality game. Whether or not you like said game is an entirely different matter. I think Warcraft III is an excellent game... but I still prefer Starcraft. My preference, however, doesn't diminish WC3's quality by any means.

Everquest is a good example of a POOR quality game that people actually LIKE. Quality, unfortunately, has nothing to do with whether or not people like something. People love reality television...even though most of it is complete crap. There's no accounting for people's tastes... or lack thereof.

When I was 16 I wrote a little wrestling game in BASIC. To say it was simplistic would be a vast overstatement. Each turn it let the player pick a move to execute... but the moves did nothing. The game was no more sophisticated than a coin flip... and yet my friends (all of them wrestling fans) played that things for HOURS. They imagined that the game had all this depth that it simply didn't have. Basically my friends couldn't tell the difference between chocolate and dog crap.

It appears my childhood friends have multiplied and populated the Internet.

The [flamebait] tag and the smiley shoud've been enough to show it was a joke.

As for the game, who knows. They've never made any MMORPG, and it could end up not being much different then other MMO or being very repetitive. Heck, for all I know, the community in the game may be as intelligent as the average B.Net player.

As for the game itself, a lot of people hate Blizzard games. And I couldn't care less if you end up liking it or if it's a good game as you may say. The only thing that matters for me is if I like it. A lot of people like EQ, some even say it's addictive. But I think that's a fucking awful game. So what?

Oh, and about "my (very educated) opinion", you're taking yourself way too seriously. Don't forget this is the internet afterall.

Sorry quazz, but there is such a thing as a qualitative, objective assessment of a game's quality. There is also such a thing as predicting a trend (i.e. if Blizzard has made good games in the past they are likely to continue doing so). Lastly, my being a fanboy (which I freely admit to being) does not invalidate my (very educated) opinion. Please, in the future, lay off the logical fallacies.

Yeah, the female characters have... ahhh... Big Tracks of Land in the cartoony style Blizzard is using. Better than squared off poly's I suppose.

I will only be 'subscribing' to the MMORGP's that provide to the paying customer 'private' key areas such as quest dungeon's or other areas with 'key' MoB's, ala, AO and the other new MMORGP coming out from Microsoft.. Mystical or something like that. I will no longer pay a company to make me wait for 4 hours till some other 'group' is done camping a static spawn for an item. The game devs should simply identify key areas and make them private per group via a key or scroll, etc. To me that is the future of MMORGP's. Big community feel with the general areas and a Single Player/Lan group quality with special quests and MoB's.

While speculation can be fun, it's completely useless and irrelevent to say that the game will be "good" or "bad" untill you play it. And even then, it's just a personnaly opinion.

Blizzard isn't a company known for its revolutionary game design, but they *are* known for taking an existing concept and doing it one better. As far as I'm concerned there hasn't been a single MMORPG yet created that requires an ounce of skill beyond the ability to resist chewing through one's own wrist in abject boredom.

Trust me when I say this: Blizzard could take the basic premise of EQ and make it work in a ways that Sony has never imagined. Blizzard knows gamers and Blizzard knows gameplay. If their track record holds true, WoW will be the best MMORPG on the market BAR NONE.

I didn't play it for very long and I had some performance problem on the PC I was using back then. When ever I would go in the bigger city, my framerate would get so low (read: <3fps) that I had to look at the ground and follow the road with a printed map to know where I had to go, so I missed out on a good part of the game (I tryed to avoid those city as much as I could). But for the little I played, good part of the world fell empty when you travelled alone.

It's still a great MMO. Intuitive from the start (something lacking in a lot of MMO, just look at EQ, I didn't even bother playing it for more then 20 minutes the way it was made. First time I finally got out of the builing where I started [wich was just some VERY ugly maze], I fell in water and couldn't figure out how to get out of it, so I died. I respawned in the middle of some kind of forest were every creature could easily kill me and kept killing me every time I respawned. Damn nice way to get consumer to pay by pissing them off from the start.)

Really, DAoC is the only MMO I would consider paying for, but with new one coming "soon", I can't get myself to buy an older game.
That, and at the price those damn game cost...

I forget where, but I saw an interview with Bill Ropier saying that they will not use the B.net system, they are developing a new system.

This is good because they've learned a lot from B.net over the years, and they can put that knowledge to good use.

However, I am still going to wait for reviews and such before I decide to play WoW - Even though it's Blizzard, and I feel they're gonna do a great job, it's a MMORPG, and MMORPGs are a different realm, a different beast -- many games are ruined in my opinion by going to the MMORPG style.

"DAoC is still missing a few things IMO"

Just curious, but what do you think DAoC is missing? I find it a little stagnant, myself, in that all battles seem to be very similar. RvR is still a blast, though, but if they could balance some more, it would be better.

I still think that EQ and DAoDC are both the ones to beat at this point. Shadowbane is a disappointment, and Earth and Beyond was really bad. I tried Asheron's Call 2 for about 10 minutes, but the lag was just too much. And the less said about Anarchy Online the better.

I'm sort of waiting for something better, too, but I think that MMORPGs will have to offer a lot more their first release in order to compete these days (and they need to have better stability on day one).

Sure, there's plenty of MMORPG, but most are complete crap IMO. I'm still waiting for a good one to come out with good graphics and the only thing that came close to that was DAoC. I've never seen an other "fantasy/medieval" based MMORPG that was worth paying a monthly fee for. And I want to play one, but DAoC is still missing a few things IMO.

""too late" for what? "

Too late in that the MMORPG market is already being saturated, and unless WoW can somehow offer something better/different, then it'll probably look a lot like every other MMORPG. And I'm not paying $12.99 a month for something that's just a copy of another game.

"WoW to the Sims is a bit of a stretch."

Just in the advance press: Sims Online was supposed to be the EQ killer: the MMOG for the masses. Hyped as being successful before it even launched. I see WoW being given the same over-hyped treatment. Still, you are correct: Blizzard has a good track record and their fans are loyal. That's good: they'll need all the help they can get.

As to another poster's dismissal of Battlenet problems: well, if we can reward Blizzard for their good games, and use that as a measure of WoW, then certainly how Blizzard mismanaged the security of BattleNet can be applied to how they plan to do WoW. As I said, they will need to be sure that security is maintained.

My wife will never play a Blizzard game again, as her high level Diablo 2 character got hacked and pillaged of items. Doesn't really make her feel very confident about WoW.

Looks good, but I wonder how it will end up being in-game.
I'll see if I ever get in the beta...

That's what they said about Sims Online and EA, too. There's no guarantee that this game will be successful. In fact, by the time it comes out, it may be too late.

"too late" for what?

also, comparing WoW to the Sims is a bit of a stretch. Sims gamers tended to be a of the mainstrean/casual variety who probably never heard of a MMOG until SO was released. On the other hand, Warcraft and Blizzard fans, in general, tend towards the hardcore gamer with a rabid loyalty to both Blizzard and its IP's. I've never been a fan of WC but the trailers and screenshots have even me quite interested now so I can only imagine the effect its having on the true beleivers.

If there any guarantee in this industry as to which games make it and which don't, both SWG and WoW head the pack as the former category.

Just my opinion.

#1: Blizzard has yet to release a steaming, bug-infested pile of crap, unlike most companies.
#2: B-Net has nothing to do with the WoW servers
#3: www has nothing to do with the WoW servers

And most importantly... It's Blizzard... : )

Blizzard has yet not to sell a good product ( except maybe diablo series). Sure B.Net might be a little unstable but you can rest assured they are using software and code that has no corolation. And compare them to pretty much everyother MMORPG company. None of them even stick out for good customer support. None of them had good releases ( except DAoC ). I can defenitely see Blizzard kicking it's foot into the MMORPG ladder and climbing it's way up. It's Blizzard... not much more I could say

Screenshots - I suspect the Blizzard servers are getting hammered like a whore in Nevada on free service night. Wait awhile, or go to the fansites for a look-see.

WOW - is the only MMORPG that has got my interest. Everquest, Asheron's Call, DAoC, and all other just have not really got my interest. If they implement clan support, I just might take the plunge and play my first ever MMORPG.

We'll see.
