World of Warcraft Beta Plans

The Night Elves have been revealed, a new race that will be playable in Blizzard's World of Warcraft, and a few screenshots are available to show them off. In further related news, a post to the World of Warcraft Forums (thanks Mystics Network) has word on plans for beta testing of the Warcraft-themed MMORPG:

The beta is expected to begin sometime in Q3 (Sometime between August and October). It will be done in stages. That is all the information we have at this time, please watch the World of Warcraft site for any news.

That's what they said about Sims Online and EA, too. There's no guarantee that this game will be successful. In fact, by the time it comes out, it may be too late.

"too late" for what?

also, comparing WoW to the Sims is a bit of a stretch. Sims gamers tended to be a of the mainstrean/casual variety who probably never heard of a MMOG until SO was released. On the other hand, Warcraft and Blizzard fans, in general, tend towards the hardcore gamer with a rabid loyalty to both Blizzard and its IP's. I've never been a fan of WC but the trailers and screenshots have even me quite interested now so I can only imagine the effect its having on the true beleivers.

If there any guarantee in this industry as to which games make it and which don't, both SWG and WoW head the pack as the former category.

Just my opinion.
