Advent Rising Announced

Following up on tidbits found in print (story), Majesco Introduces Advent Rising is the official announcement (and actual title) of Advent Rising, an upcoming PC and Xbox third-person action/adventure game that will kick off a trilogy of science fiction games created in collaboration with famed sci-fi author Orson Scott Card. The Advent Rising website is now online, offering a couple of wallpapers, and further revelations about the game are expected at E3. Meanwhile, here is a bit from the press release:
In Advent Rising, a common legend pervades the galaxy - that of a powerful, ancient race that will one day unite the universe. Millions of cultures from vastly distant worlds revere and hallow these mythological beings known as humans. One race, the Seekers, know humans actually exist and are threatened by their potential power. Under the guise of benevolent explorers, the Seekers travel throughout the galaxy in a desperate attempt to eradicate any human society they unearth.

Players assume the role of Gideon Wyeth, a remnant of the last human outpost, on the brink of discovering the incredible powers that lay dormant within him. It is these powers the Seekers are so desperate to suppress.

The orginal sequels weren't nearly as good as Ender's Game. Ender's Shadow was pretty good, and so was Fall of the Hegemon. But he himself admitted that they followed more in the vein of the original Ender's Shadow. I also wish they would make a movie. I hear constant rumours, but nothing ever appears.

Yep, that's my problem with Card's work, actually. He should be doing the new Battlestar Galactica series.

Like many sci-fi novels, Ender's Game was good, followed by excruciatingly unnecessary sequels.

unless the first one stinks, then there won't be a trilogy

No religion bashing intended, but a lot of OSC's later work has tended toward subversive Mormon religion disguised as sci-fi... I could see this going the same way.

Although ... Ender's Game is one of my favorite books of all time and I really wish they'd do a movie

Well. Card wrote at least one book - Ender's Game - that's unanimously seen as one of the finest in the genre. The sequels are more controversial, but I think they're great books, as well. So I'll wait and see how this turns out. Hell knows the gaming world needs some good story writers.

How about a game where you have to destroy crappy games like this one might be?

Sounds like another of the typical "humans are special" type plots that are oh-so original. Lemme guess, Gideon Wyeth will have to use these incredible powers to put the smackdown on all those oppressive aliens, thus actually confirming the danger that the aliens were attempting to supress.

I want a plot where the aliens are right, and the humans are all destroyed, happily, in the end.
