Some Jedi Academy Info For You on the Raven Software forums is a post from Raven's Kenn Hoekstra with some poop "straight from Raven/LucasArts/Activision" on Jedi Academy. Here's the deal:
Lightsaber – The player will start with a lightsaber he creates choosing from different hilts and blade colors. The player will be able to use the lightsaber for the entire game, eventually earning the right to wield a saber staff, or one lightsaber in each hand. A full range weapons and Force Powers is also available to the player, as in Jedi Outcast.

Player Character – As the player, you get to create a custom Jedi character to play through the game with, choosing from hundreds of potential combinations. As a student at the Jedi Academy, you will train under Luke Skywalker and Kyle Katarn.

Timeline – The game takes place one year after the events of Jedi Outcast; fourteen years after A New Hope.

Game Engine – Jedi Academy uses a heavily modified version of id Software’s Quake III: Team Arena engine. New features added since Jedi Outcast are:
  • Character customization system - allows players to create their own Jedi in both SP and MP (estimating 2160 combinations currently)
  • Ghoul II enhancements including the Ghoul infinite Model modification system - Allows for modular model enhancements, custom colorization, and expanded animation support
  • New ICARUS II scripting system for Single player and Multiplayer. Now allows for scripted events in multiplayer matches.
  • New map creation tools allowing for models to be used as in world objects instead of just textures. Creates richer 3-D environments.
  • New non-linear mission progression system.
  • Raven’s ARIOCHE terrain system.
  • Portal skies
  • Rag doll skeletal system
  • Enhanced vehicle system. Allows for new ride-able vehicles in addition to previous drive-able ones
  • Character and vehicle enhancements designed to enable expanded mod support. Modders will be able to design their own Jedi, character outfits, sabers, etc.
Development – Jedi Academy is being developed by Raven Software in conjunction with LucasArts and Activision. LucasArts is publishing and distributing the game in North America. Activision is distributing the game in all non-North American territories.

Technicaly JK2, wasnt really a true FPS anyway. I mean once I got my lightsabre I mostly played in third person.
Why do you start with the lightsabre in JKAcademy? I mean isnt the whole point to earn it. And why should I use any of the other weapons anyway? Since the sabre is the best.

Oh Im sorry, didnt want to hurt your Raven-asskissing feelings. anyway, if you would take a look at all the mods out there for JK2 which DONT modify anything else but balancing or servers which run all kinds of different versions of JK2 then you would see that this game is very poorly balanced now as it is. ive never seen any other 3D game that has so many custom made mods which only aim at balancing. and if you dont believe in all the bugs, give the tech support forums a visit.

I have given up on waiting for BIS to come back to their senses and do a real ArmA 2 successor.

I'm gonna say that the fps future is looking "bright."

HL 2.. Jedi Academy.. Doom 3.. and a host of other smaller name titles with lots of potential...

Actually, stand right in front of him and slowly inch your way forward till your saber touches his shield (don't swing or anything so that your saber blocks his gun fire). Once your saber makes contact with his shield just sit there until his shield drops, its takes about 1/2 a minute. Once his shield drops engage Force Speed and run around him while slashing your saber at him. His shield will re-engage after a short time and when it does simply stop in front of him and redo the above sequence till he's dead. Pretty simple.

CableGuy,

I beat the Imperial commander guy in the suit with my Light Saber exclusively, it wasn't very hard. Try it again and don't use any weapons. There is a very simple trick and once you get it the guy is VERY easy. Hint: Your saber will block ALL his arsenal's. You shouldn't have to use any weapons after you get the saber.

OMG OMG OMG, This game is so gonna rock! Even though the graphics engine is older than HL2 & Doom 3's, I'm more excited about this game, including SW:KOTOR. How can you argue against a lightsabe anyways? The best FPS weapon ever!

dude, wth are you talking about "every fucking game and his dog"! AFAIK This is one of the first times Dual Wielding would be implemented in a game like this. Even Blade of Darkness and RUNE didn't have it.
I don't see what the prob is, I think its awesome. Not nearly enough games give you this option because its too much work to support it. (lots of new animations etc) Its not like its as popular as the damn saber staff is gonna be...

I'd like to know what all these other games are that have to include dual-wield now.
And besides, I do believe Salvatore started the whole Drizzt craze back in the 80's. Its a little late to blame that for games today including dual wield right? I mean, unless Drizzt is THAT popular.

Ok, if you wanna get specific, the Imperial commander guy in the suit. I don't know his name. I just remember he had a mech suit with a shield, and the innovative way to kill him was to hit him a lot with all your guns. Then I think eventually the shield went down and you could slash him. Didn't hold a candle to the flying, missle-launching final Dark Trooper in Dark Forces. I miss those guys. I wonder how the DF mod for JKII is doing? That's a game I'd love to be able to play again.

I'll agree with that, but they're not all totally GOOD either. The first Soldier of Fortune for instance, was very bland. The gore was fantastic, but the game itself was quite repetitive. But I LOVED Heretic II back in the day, and I think JO was pretty darn good, if the multiplay was a bit out of whack. I got turned off by constant force-pushes off cliffs and random saber combat. I never understood the debate over stances, all I ever saw were the same few moves (the overhead jumping lunge, the upward sweep from a crouch). Also, I'll never forgive them for the first four saber-less levels. They give you a lightsaber, THEN they give you weapons you can actually hit stuff with. But you don't ever need to use them except against the walkers or that one boss. Anyways, enough of my standard JO-bitching, I'll have high hopes. Besides, if this game sucks, I'm sure HL2, DIII, and Breed will help fill the hole in my heart.

But it's the same concept with pissing on an electric fence, ya piss on the fence, the electricity will travel the stream to your body and electrocute you. I can only imagine that doing the same on a Subway power line would probably kill a person instantly.

And the reason Anakin got his hand chopped off was cause of his arrogance in underestimating Count Dooku, and that when Luke chopped off Vaders hand to show how he lost the hand in the first place.

And finally Lightsabers are energy weapons, i'm sure there are tons of sights and official information on them, so google.com your brains out.

The Nar Shaddaa levels were butt-ugly as well. From the beginning, I thought the screenshots of the bar looked like shit, and the finished game lived up to that. Now, we've got another shitty looking bar in the early screenshots for JA. They really ought to take a look at making "real world" locations, even if it is "real world" as seen in the Star Wars galaxy.

yeah, thing is, i can understand the chemistry that says 'electricity travels in urine", but the fact that it wasn't common knowledge made me think it was a myth. still, which transport service brags about how many it has killed? not many i'm sure.

i've yet to hear of an actual person croaking it from pissing on the live tracks, but i'm sure i could be proved wrong
