Good post Nexus, very constructive :).
I just want to point out that a lot of the points you made for what separates EVE from the rest doesn't 'really' separate it at all, for instance:
"Player numbers in one world for one"
- and to date they have proven they can handle how many? 3k? With Beta Testers complaining of Server Warp Lag Deaths, Lag Spikes, etc. These 'problems' plagued UO (and may still). Until they can 'prove' to be able to handle > 10k subscribers I wouldn't use that as an anchor debate point.
"Painful death. Hey, I like the consequences."
- getting ganked in UO in the middle of a dungeon watching some dude named MaStABiTcHSlAp steal ALL your loot was not very easy to swallow. EQ made the poor customer run HOURS to recover loot, thats pretty painful to me. AC was kinda like UO (Dark Server).
"The market. afaik, none of the others have buy and sell orders with ranges and all sorts of other things. Heck, most of them don't have courier missions either, even if they're buggy as hell at the moment."
- UO had the same Market scheme, supply and demand. A buyer would pay more for a hide in Moonglow than in Britain.. Blah Blah Blah economics. This was also like 5 years ago, nothing new here.
"The security system + factions. Eve's far more dynamic"
- UO, EQ maybe more have 'factions'. In UO I could hire guards to protect me from 'pirates'.
Like I said, nice post but it really has been done.. and years ago, another reason why these new MMORGP's should be coming out of release smoother and cleaner. No excuse for CCP.
