EVE Online Gold [Apr 23, 2003, 10:18 am ET] – Share – Viewing Comments
Simon & Schuster Interactive sends news that EVE Online: The Second Genesis,
their MMO space game, has gone gold. They say the NDA on information about the
game has been officially dropped as of today, and the official launch is slated
for May 6 (sorry for messing up the date at first). They also send along a
batch of five new screenshots, and word that the game's producer, Mike
"Campion" Wallis will be in the EVE Online IRC Channel today at 5:00
PM EDT to discuss the announcement. The chat will be conducted on the server
stratics.frws.com in the channel #eve-online.
Well, adding new content is one thing... but there are basic problems with the game that should have been fixed before going gold.
The interface is horrible and slow/ unresponsive (and not just because of lag). The type is too small for my old eyes, extremely difficult to read all of the text. Convoluted trading system, making money is a painful process.
Ship controls are lame, its almost impossible to do a fly-by of other ships. At least EnB, when I beta tested that game, you could "fly" your ship somewhat.
The game is extraordinarily dull, its pretty, but it is soooo dull.
