Simon & Schuster Interactive sends news that EVE Online: The Second Genesis, their MMO space game, has gone gold. They say the NDA on information about the game has been officially dropped as of today, and the official launch is slated for May 6 (sorry for messing up the date at first). They also send along a batch of five new screenshots, and word that the game's producer, Mike "Campion" Wallis will be in the EVE Online IRC Channel today at 5:00 PM EDT to discuss the announcement. The chat will be conducted on the server stratics.frws.com in the channel #eve-online.

I've been in the beta for a few days now and I have to say this game has real potential. The look and feel is fantastic, and it wasnt that hard to get into it. It has a dark atmosphere (kinda like Aliens) and should be the holy grail for most Space Junkies (forget Earth & beyond! played that as well!). Although you have to do a fair ammount of mining before you get the big money, it is really fun to upgrade your ship, your skills (you can train your skills offline, that's what I love!) study the market or just be a mean pirate (be warned though, PvP can be quite a pain for the pacifist tradesmen) Yet as of now, it is still quite buggy and, to be honest, I was a bit shocked when I read about the Gold status. I hope that in the next weeks they can squish the remaining issues to an extent that new players will be drawn into the great game that EVE indeed is.
