It's
been a while... on the Star Wars Galaxies Forums (thanks Dr. Del) has an
update from Rich Vogel, executive producer on SOE's upcoming Star Wars MMORPG.
He gives a status report on development, and offers news that open beta testing
for the game is scheduled to kick off next month. Here's the bit that mentions
this, which makes it clear this is subject to change:
Our current plan is
to go to Open Beta in early May. This all depends on how polished we are. I
realize lots of you want to play but it is important that we make your play
experience an enjoyable one.
... I hope this "open" beta is true (even if it's a Fileplanet type thing). I won't buy this game until I get a trial or beta to judge it by.
I have been let down by too many MMO's with their crappy launches and crappy game play. I might be jaded but it's the fault of several developers all trying their best to cash in on the MMO money train. So now before I buy another.... I'll try it out first.
The optimist in me want this one bad thou. And I am hoping they can pull it off. I am not a huge Star Wars fanatic. Thou I did enjoy the first three movies and Episode II.
You failed that one bucko. It's more of an inequality: Dantastic > Soupkin Oh ya, and I know how to spell totally

Keep in mind that SWG is charging testers for the beta test. Even though the game can be downloaded for free, you still have to order and pay for the discs. Paying to beta test - don't know if it's George, but I think someone is making some money of the SWG beta.
SOE just likes to mislead consumers. It's not really an open beta, it's still limited and invite only (max 50k and there have been 200k+ apps). I was in since beta 1, but the game turned out to be a let down, once you get past the star wars eye-candy.
I hope this happens because I'm not that much of a Star Wars fan myself, so getting to try an open beta will help me decide if the game would still be fun for me regardless of the theme.
