Fire Chief Announced

The count of Monte Cristo sends Experience Life as a Fire Fighter, a press release announcing plans for a tactical game that simulates the dangerous life of a fire fighter. Here's a bit on this project, formerly known as Fire Department: "Offering more red-hot action than you can shake a fire axe at, Fire Chief is a tactical mission-based game which offers spectacular action in realistic settings. Players take charge of a squad of specialized fire fighters and vehicles. Under pressure, they must make the right decisions and fight against numerous fires and obstacles in order to minimise collateral damage and save lives." There are some new screenshots on the yet-to-be-renamed Fire Department Website.

There actually have been some successful fire-fighting action games. Anyone remember Burning Rangers for the Sega Saturn? That was one of the best games on the system, and it was a fire-fighting game. I'd kill for a remake of that game on XBox...

I'd comment on the shitacular premise for this game but I'm too busy sitting in a lawn chair staring at my mailbox waiting for the planetside beta discs

You get to sit around on your ass, go to various city council meetings to beg for money, and use workers that should be renovating the fire house to build a pool in your backyard, all while fudging budget estimates and organizing rallies to prevent the city from cutting your budget by invoking the heroic sacrifices of your brethren firefighters who died on Sept. 11th due to mismanaged communications.

Yeah, I'd buy that game.

You live in NY also?

Imagine a cinemeatic fire-fighting action game produced in the style of Medal of Honor. Put in really good gameplay (doesn't have to be all realistic, could be abstract) and polished graphics. That would be a very welcome change from the usual violence games. Won't happen though. :/

Call me critical, but it just seems a gimmick since people will see it and support it. It'll probably even have a "some of the money goes to charity clause on the packaging...

"Games based around fire are generally fun. I have fond memories of this old shareware game that was called "pyromaniac", and ... oh, wait. That game was probably fun because you were lighting the fires.

The press release seems to focus on the fire-fighting action, but I think that the game really needs a strong sub-plot to be a worthwhile game to play."

Maybe you're chasing the guy from 'Pyromaniac'?

This sounds like one of those self-consciously non-violent titles that usually wind up sucking. Nevertheless, with the way games have been lately, innovation is welcome. Of course, innovation by itself is worthless. Best of luck Fire Chief.
