3, That seems to be the case. Note the Galactic Civ reviews compared to MOO3's.

I'm enjoying it, though all my planets seem to run out of resources, leaving my production in shambles. Still, it is a great game to play on the laptop while beating up things in DAOC, EQ, etc.

I'll probably be breaking out Alpha Centauri again because of this game, too: I'm been missing turned-based fun recently (and since I STILL can't get X-Com to run reliably on my PC without disable half the graphic card functions, I'll have to make do).

Penny Arcade has a take on it:

Nutshell: It's like MOO3, but with less stuff. And easier. And more things make sense. The catch is that if you're the type that would really really like MOO3 once you got past the fantastic learning curve, then you would like GalCiv less, the problem of course being that the number of people who will ever get past MOO3's learning curve and like the game are slim.

Basically GalCiv's a safer bet.

The game is right up there with the best of them... what's TRULY amazing is the support the game continues to get from the developers. They're right there on the forums, answering questions and putting users' suggestions and issues into subsequent patches. The way games ought to be supported...

Giving money and power to government is like giving car keys and whiskey to teenage boys.

I havn't played it, but I've heard its real good.. also the reviews say so.

It seems to be better than MOO3 anyways.

GalCiv or the update? Don't have the latter, but the game is great. Best 4X I've played since, well, ever. Awesome AI.
