Lords of EverQuest Announced

A website for Lords Of EverQuest is now online (thanks Worthplaying) officially announcing the plans for an RTS game based on Sony Online Entertainment's addictive MMORPG that they teased last summer (story). The included Lords Of EverQuest FAQ indicates the game, which is not of the massively multiplayer variety, is expected to ship by the end of this year. The site also includes some screenshots, info on units, and more, including a Producer's Letter hyping this as one of those next generation breakthroughs:
Lords of EverQuest represents the next generation of real-time strategy (RTS) gaming, adding many new concepts to the genre while improving on proven gameplay standards. Inspired by the lore of the online gaming phenomenon EverQuest, Lords of EverQuest features an enthralling storyline that draws you into the world of Norrath to change the fate of the world.

Featuring three different unique factions to battle and a beautiful game world filled with breathtaking environments, you are able to command troops comprised of Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Fiends and even Dragons! Your role is to take command of one of 16 Lords from the dawn of Norrath and lead an army of hundreds against your enemies in a race to claim a lost artifact.

sounds to me like they're just trying to milk the everquest name as much as they can... well, if they created Everquest 2 then maybe... but Everquest the RTS??? No self respecting RTS player will play this!

I can see the multiplay portion of the game...people camping the map waiting for enemy spawns.

I thought it looked like WC3 as well.. but apparently they are using a different game engine.

From the LoEQ FAQ page:
WHAT GRAPHIC ENGINE ARE YOU USING?
We are using a brand new proprietary terrain engine with real-time lighting and terrain deformation.

Maybe its Warcraft 3 but with a new, cutting-edge, high-tech game aspect that requires you to sit and wait for most of the time you're playing and spend the remainder begging the druids for spirit of the wolf so you can run faster.

Indeed. Guess Sony is not too happy about World of Warcraft.
