Matrix Times Six?
on PC.IGN.Com (thanks Ant) has details on packaging for the upcoming
Matrix tie-in, reporting that the PC version will come on six CDs, saying:
"Infogrames reps didn't bust out the specifics, but we do know the PC
version will be somewhat pricier than its console counterparts."
it's on 6 discs cause there's over an hour of video that's in there. the video supposedly won't be half-ass either: it's all being done by the same team of people (and with the actual cast of the movies) that's doing the Matrix movies. it SHOULD be some damned impressive shit.
altho I agree, it should be on a DVD. if ANYTHING's gonna convert PC owners to buying DVD drives, it'll be a Matrix game (especially if it gets good reviews). hell, the Matrix movie sold almost as many DVD players as it did copies of the movie. DVD drives are cheap, even in retail outlets. there's not much of an excuse left.
I do know there will be more than an hour of footage done just for the game. Jada Pinkett-Smith and the guy who plays Ghost filmed these sequences written and directed by the Wachowskis (ok I spelled that wrong)
An extra hour of the Matrix? 6 CDs piss me off, but I'm ok with it.
The direction video/computer games are going is pissing me off, it seems like all these big budget titles end up feeling stale, linear, and unoriginal. Small game developers need to get more money from somewhere so they can make games that are actually based off of a cool idea or inspiration and not some widely accepted cultural crap-fest like the matrix...
So let me get this straight, people are justifying this being on 6 cd's because it has over an hour of video ? Last time I checked, you can have superb quality video thats 100 minutes long (and over) on a single CD (DivX, XviD etc..)
Are they using that shite Bink again for fmv. What a joke that codec is.
This should be on DVD I have to say. The price increase has nothing to do with it being on 6 cds as cds cost pennies to make. So with it being on 6 cds as opposed to the standard 1 or 2 means it costs the manufacturer, gasp, about 10p more I would imagine. 10p !!! Crikey, thats gonna lose em millions !!</sarcasm>
if ANYTHING's gonna convert PC owners to buying DVD drives, it'll be a Matrix game
yeah but they're not interested in making converts, they're interested in selling games. Remember that nearly every week a new PSX (1) game is released.
hell, the Matrix movie sold almost as many DVD players as it did copies of the movie
yeah but remember the climate - it was 1999 and a scant six months or so after Columbine. Clinton announced he was investigating Hollywood movie marketing practices, so releasing a movie on VHS for the public to buy with guys in overcoats using lots of guns was a Bad Idea, so to compromise they released it on the less popular DVD format (it was on VHS for rental). DVD as a format couldn't have asked for a better prodigy. It was released for purchase after the new year.
the actual cost of a game cd to manafacture is around $0.50 US. 6 CD's would cost $3.00. Assume they sell 500,000 copies and you are talking $1,500,000 cost for the CD - where a single CD game would cost $250,000. That extra 1.25 million is nothing to sneeze at...

which is probably why the PC version will cost more. Of course, anticipating higher sales is probably the reason they'll even do it. By that logic, Konami must have figured the hit to do Metal Gear Solid 2 Substance wouldn't be worth the hit (most people probably own it on PS2)
...to the DVD version that was initially announced for PC? More than ever, it seems like this game would benefit it. Besides, it would be |<3\/\/1
Glad that the boards and site are back up, Ray
