I don't think it's too bad. I'm guessing that the first two cds will be for installing (named installation disc 1 and 2)
And the other CDs will be labeled 1-4. You'll play through 25% of the game with cd 1. Then at 26% it will ask you for disc 2 and so on.
So it's not like your going to change the CDs every 30 minutes. Just four times through the game. And when you go and play the game later, just put the numbered cd in that your were on.
It's just like the PS1 Final Fantasy games. But they had to put duplicate game data on each of those CDs along with the FMV.
So that's how I think it will play out. Hell, it's nothing like how the Myst games are. Like in the sequel Riven, you changed the CD everytime you went from one Island to the next, so you could be changing the CD many times withen an hour.
So this whole thing with 6 cds is not that bad. Yes it would be nice if it was on DVD. But like I said, it's not bad enough to alienate customers who don't have DVD drives.
The original Matrix was released on DVD probably because it was the only way to release it at the best quality and features. So getting a DVD player wasn't as bad. But for the game, releasing it on CDs does not effect the quality of the game compared to it on a DVD, it's just data.
The price, if it did cost 3 dollars more for the CDs, I would then think they'd just sell the game still for $50 and whatever their profit was it would be 3 dollars less, 49.95 looks a lot more attractive to customers than 52.95. Seeing a 4 at the front is much more appealing than a 5, even though there's almost no difference.
Do I make any sense?
