(Belated) Morning Previews

  • Mace Griffin
Mace in Space on PC.IGN.Com offers impressions of the space combat aspect of Mace Griffin: Bounty Hunter, the natural-enough follow-up to their preview of the ground combat in the game. They describe how combat operates, including how relatively safe being a space combatant can be: "In fact, you've got to go out of your way to get blown up. Just as with ground combat, Mace's ships have an energy shield meter and a damage meter. The energy meter replenishes if no damage is taken for a few seconds."
  • Chrome
HomeLan Fed's Chrome Preview is online, offering first-hand impressions of Techland's upcoming FPS. They describe the game's various shooter aspects, as well as it's "RPG-lite" aspects: "This RPG-lite feature is complemented by the game’s bio-implant system; your character can turn on a limited number of implants that give him enhanced abilities (better aim, thermo vision, and even things like better armor and more). These abilities are useful but limited; after a short time they will overload on you."
  • PlanetSide
There's a PlanetSide preview on Futurelooks with some quick impressions and a lot of screenshots, and another preview on GameAxis where they go into further detail about SOE's upcoming MMOFPS.
  • EVE Online
There's an EVE Online Preview on discussing CCP's upcoming MMORPG. They discuss gameplay, comparisons with other games, and have this to say about the eye candy: "In fact many people have confused in game action for in game movies, only to be shocked when they’ve learned the truth. You can expect the same type of quality graphics from the character creation system, and even though looks are important, skills should be your top priority."
  • WWII: Frontline Command
Gamers Europe's World War II: Frontline Command Preview offers impressions of Bitmap Brothers' World War II strategy game, describing along the way the game's focus on action: "There’s no resource management to worry about, no harvesting, building or creating to be done. It’s pure strategic combat all the way, freeing you of the worry of running a base."
  • Viking Invasion
The Medieval Total War: Viking Invasion Preview on GameSpot with a look at the upcoming Nordic installment in Creative Assembly's strategy series. While the Vikings suffer from a geographical disadvantage, the article also describes the upsides of the new race: "For instance, since the Vikings were experts at pillaging enemy villages in raids, they will receive a destruction bonus that lets them earn bonus funds whenever they destroy an enemy town."
  • Port Royale
There are Port Royale impressions on GameSpot with a look at the seafaring strategy on tap in Ascaron Entertainment's upcoming management game. They describe various aspects of gameplay, including the choices of how to conduct combat: "Port Royale also features full-scale naval combat that will let you either automatically resolve battles or command them yourself by giving your ships orders manually, just like in a conventional real-time strategy game."

EVE isn't even close to being ready for release. If it does come out May 6th, stay away for at least 3-6 months. It seems to me this reviewer was sugar coating everything for brownie points. While the beta has progressed quite a bit since it went open, there are still some _major_ bugs.
