I have been following this game for two years now, anxiously waiting for its release.

Tho I bought it the day it came out, I havent played it yet because of my internet connection.

So the most I can do is read reviews. Lots of reviews. And now Im getting scared.

Is there anyone who actually like this game? Does anyone have anything good to say about it? Is it really that cheesy? Am I going to be wasting $15/mo playing it? Or should I just go home and cry?

I thought the environments in the video looked horrible. It looks like more of the same drawn-out-just-to-make-you-walk-far boring environments from every other MMORPG. What is the deal with the bandit camp looking like some sort of cheesy Alamo sitting in the middle of a grass field? Are these the kind of environments we should expect in this game?

Did they just say "a maker of fine blasters"?!?!?

Shooting for 6 damage instead of 3 damage with a "rusty blaster", I guess, with NPC enemies punching you for 8x more than your "fine blaster" shoots for.

Where's the good old .44 hand cannon when you need it? Even if their future stormtrooper armor is impervious to small physical projectiles, it'll still knock 'em back on their can with the wind knocked out of 'em. Then one to the helmet and they're out cold.

I always found it idiotic that a 10 foot tall, 4000 pound ogre who, based on the look of him, could bench press at least 10 tons, and swinging a 10 foot long, 600 pound sword couldn't instantly cleave a lil' ol' orc in half -- especially from behind when the orc was fightin' someone else. Heck, an orc, being about like a gorilla, which can bench press over a ton, should be able to pick up a "barbarian" and tear him in half with no sweat.

I guess this game'll just be more of the same. "You blast a wamp rat for 8 points." "A wamp rat bites YOU for 58 points!" Repeat ad nauseum.

I was ready to talk smack, but I kinda liked the blaster fire back and forth. Animations lookded fluid, ground textures were pretty nice too. The facial socials looked kind of gimpy but I guess you have the RP people too.

I like how you don't necessarily die immediately when you lose all your hit points, as the "director's commentary" says. It'll certainly make wandering around in groups more entertaining since if one person dies, you won't have to wait 10-20 minutes for the person to return after respawning. This game looks pretty cool to me, but unfortunately I doubt I'll ever have the time required to devote to a mmorpg.

Ok... the dialogue was stupid. Fair enough. The graphics from what I saw were awesome. (granted it was a P4 2.1 ghz with gforce 4 and 1 gig of ram). Everything you see is played by humans and in fact IS showing off gameplay, only not from a first person perspective. The graphic designers may not have caught the recoil problm but look at what they have done. The SW:G environment is probably the most realistic game environment I have ever seen.

If you want to see some first person gameplay look for vids on the internet. I think there are a couple.

C3PO commented on the artists fixing the rifle recoil due to bad criticism. I am wondering how the artists let an animation that bad get by them in the first place.

There is a post on the SWG site that explains why the video is what it is... He didn't have enough time to do the edits, he is not a professional video editor, they didn't show the UI on purpose, ect... While it may not the new Matrix Reloaded trailer, but it shows what they where after...

The movie graphics look ok,the production of it,leaves alot to be desired.Looks as if it was done on some bad freeware video editing software:o..we all know this ones gonna be big though.

That's quality

The video, hmmm... Dunno. It doesn't look all that earthshattering and jawbreaking as Sony and LA and Verant would have everyone believe. Coupled with the fact that the "features missing" list is approximately 5 times longer than the "features implemented" list, and this one looks like it's going to be one very sore disappointment for SW geeks. Who will, ofcourse, still buy it in droves, and make Verant and Sony even richer off their substandard games.

All the while Warren Spector has to sacrifice an arm and a leg to some demon just to get his games to sell 100.000 copies. There is no justice in the world. And the average gamer doesn't recognize quality when it bites him in his gamorrean ass.

I saw this vid a couple days ago on IGN and what really struck me is how poorly this small story was written.

It's obviously an official trailer so it wasn't fan made.

It reminded me of the crappy small begginer quests in DAoC. I'm hoping this isn't indicative of the quality of the storyline in SWG.

Even the camera cuts are poorly done.

I seriously hope this came from a rogue programmer and not the Art department.

Why would PR in their right mind release this.

This is worse than the initial preview video of Planetside released a couple weeks ago.

How in the world does this video qualify as gameplay footage?

Unless, of course, what they really meant was "gameplay footage that we've cut up and pasted back together with goofy camera angles to simulate a really bad fanfic flash movie."

I was actually looking forward to the game more before that video.

I want to see actual gameplay. I want to have some hint of the UI... inventory, trading, etc. I want to see actual combat, not faked-out shots with people shouting "NOOOOO!!"

Oh well, maybe I'll get in the beta. I don't think this one's a pre-order for me, anyway. (And, for me, that's really saying something... I love MMORPGs and have at least tried almost all of them.)
