Out of the Blue

If it weren't hard enough taking a movie directed by Rob Zombie too seriously to start with, I keep hearing radio ads from his new flick that keep stressing the name of the character "Doctor Satan" over and over. All I can think of when I hear this is the scene in one of my favorite movies, Ed Wood, where Ed is pitching the studio head with movie ideas, all of which are completely contained in the titles. Cut to wild-eyed Ed: "Doctor... Acula! Doctor... Acula!" Who knows, maybe Rob will turn out to be an even finer director than Ed was.

In turn, "Who Goes There?" was clearly influenced quite heavily by H.P. Lovecraft's "At the Mountains of Madness" (1931). Incidently, isn't there a big-budget film version of ATMoM in the works now? I seem to remember reading something about that quite a few months back.

The episodes are pretty cool, but I don't think I'd buy the DVD. The Wachowskis are super-nerds. It did seem a lot like Dark City.

Both films were based on the 1938 John W. Campbell short story called, "Who Goes There?"
I did not know that. But that still doesn't change my opinion :).

Eunichron, actually the "original" wasn't really original. Carpenter's film was not a remake. Both films were based on the 1938 John W. Campbell short story called, "Who Goes There?"

Carpenter's version is actually much closer to the original story than the 50's ers "Thing From Another World" was.

Man, click on his name and see all the crap he spews out. Seriously, Blue should get the kid's IP, contact his ISP and if the ISP is nice enough, get the account's home number so he can tell his parents to take the PC away from him.

This is the best use (and quite possibly the only use) I've seen for a floppy disk in over a decade!

I've always taken the things apart but never thought to re-assemble them into something else.

...corpses last night. Wow. I actually expected LESS from Rob. Its (the movie..) not as gory as one would expect. Its not as predictable as one would expect. Disturbing? You betchya! Character design? Top notch! I am by no means a horror flick freak, having not seen many of the movies that this one supposedly makes reference to... So I was a bit skeptical when the opportunity arose for me to see a advance screening of it. Being that Rob Zombie was filming less than 5 miles away from my home last weekend, I figured what the hell, I'll check it out. I'm glad I did =)

He was turning into one of the "people" hunting her.
This one is way better than the last. Love the retro/futuristic gear. Got a little lost with the Alice in Wonderland references though.

Why did she shoot the guy?
The story was a little bit like Dark City.. Well the part about a detective discovering something.

Hmm, not the best Animatrix story I've seen yet. Excellent style though.

I saw Rob Zombie's movie, it's called House of 1000 Corpses. I was entertained by it, it has some really gruesome stuff and doesn't take itself seriously at all, which makes it pretty funny.

I think Killer Klowns From Outer Space takes the cake as worst b-movie ever created.

And Them! is great! Definately one of the best 50's era nuclear monster movies.

Am I also one of the few that prefers the original "The Thing" to John Carpenter's?

That movie even if it had outdated special effects. It is probably the best ant movie of all ant movies.

Old cheesy b-movies are superb entertainment to watch. Classics like Them! and The Thing (original, not john carpenters "remake") are so funny to watch. The hokey special fx and dodgy acting make it all worthwhile.
