There's
a Day of
Defeat preview on GameSpy.com based on getting to attend a press event last
night, where they learned more about the retail plans for this game that started
life as a Half-Life modification: "Activision will not only be publishing Day
of Defeat as a standalone game, but this will mark the beginning of a
partnership with Valve Software spanning several games." They also offer
news that the game is imminent, expected on store shelves on May 6. They quote some of the developers and the folks from Valve, and provide the gameplan
for updating the free version of the mod:
Current online players need not
worry about missing out on the fun. According to Lombardi, Valve is planning to
release patches to make sure the online and retail versions of DoD are
fully compatible, including the updated maps, weapons and code base. (The new
maps are also being planned for an online release, but not immediately. )
