BF1942: Secret Weapons Shots

Electronic Arts has released the first handful of screenshots from Battlefield 1942: Secret Weapons of WWII, the just-announced second add-on for Digital Illusions' World War II combat game. The shots show off some of the weaponry Abe Simpson never reminisced about, including surface-to-air missiles, flying wing jets, and of course 'look ma no-hands' parachutes.

Hi guys,

I have setup a 64 player battlefield server that I want to test with. It's running on a 2.53ghz P4 w/ a 5mb connection. I want to fill it up to test my connection. The IP is 216.237.61.2 and is called "Bad Lands 1.31". Try to stop by and blow stuff up. :-)

Heh, that reminds me of that one recon plane that managed to get two of those to crash while they were chasing it, because the pilots couldnt handle the speed. It was the only recon plane in the war to have two confirmed kills.

Sounds like this expansion is evolving into a Tribes 2 style game. Next thing you know they will start having supersonic fisson bombers and high powered laser-like rifles. Comon, a rocketpack?

Rocket pack will be cool.

Think of the Rocketeer. Using a rocket pack to fight Nazis was what that film (and old comic) was all about.

I'm a little nervous about this pack - it seems to be delving into the realms of fantasy.

I'd be much happier if they got around to releasing an official map editor

I misspoke (misspelled?). I should have written "flying wing," as in B-2 Stealth bomber, not "fixed wing."

If I remember correctly, the Germans had completed more research on flying wing aircraft, having functional prototypes towards the end of the war (the ultimate plan was to have a long-range bomber that could drop a nuke on New York City). After the war, there were plans on the Allied/American side to make passenger flying wing aircraft, but nothing ever came of that.

See, I know my history

"both sides were experimenting with fixed-wing bombers"

this is whats funny about reading posts online. People actually sound as though they know what they are talking about.

I *think* he's referring to F-14 type aircraft.

"both sides were experimenting with fixed-wing bombers"
As opposed to what? Gyrocopter bombers? Rotary aircraft are the only types of non-fixed-wing aircraft.

I'd guess with the sidecar it will be stabilized enough to handle somewhat as the jeeps are.

I REALLY hope they have the sidecar mounted machine guns, like this '44 BMW R75M... http://www.bluemooncycle.com/Existing%20Site/R75M.html

(By the way, that bike's for sale at a shop in Atlanta.. The gun's a replica, so not so useful in traffic jams, but... )

>>"Now, the jetpack, that's just silly"

Not really, it was an experimental "aircraft" that the German flirted with, like their so-called "flying saucers" and some of the other jet aircraft.

I'm just wondering if the maps will get signifcantly larger since these early jets were all about speed, but not necessarily manueverability...

>>"They are only creating all these new weapons cos of the war in iraq, sort of trying to cash in on modern tecnology and then selling it to the kids

Its like this: we all see stealth bombers in iraq on tv so when we see it in a game we are supposed to say 'thats sooo coool maaan' and rush out and get it as soon as its on the shelves. and in the rush of excitement we all forget thats the game is actually based in 1944, duh!"

You REALLY need to read some history or watch some History Channel (brought to you by the letters WWII!) before spouting off like this. These were ALL in existence or prototypical during WW2... they have nothing to do with the war in Iraq.

I can't believe people are complaining about new content. Sheesh, just don't buy it then. No need to get all put out about it. If anything, these screens kind of reminded me about the G.I. Joe mod being created for this game. That flying wing especially reminds me of one of that Cobra hanglider thingamabob. Seems to me if there are people willing to create and play a GI Joe mod for this game, then they may be interested in something like this. If not, they won't buy it...but I fail too see why anyone would complain about having another option, and one that they're not forced to take at that.

LOL Give it a rest, man. Yeah I'm sure that's what Lucas Arts thought when they put out 'Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe' in 1991. This looks to be nothing more than DICE's version of the same thing.

If EA and DICE want to 'cash' in on the War in Iraq, they put out a game based on it. Like publishing Desert Combat.

You know selling dlc before you patch the client doesn't impress upon me the need to support your shit. -massdev
