Play for Cash

Ultimate Arena is a newly launched game service run by Dennis "Thresh" Fong offering the chance to play online games for cash prizes. The site is pretty spare of details about the service, as it directs you straight to a sign-in page, but here is a bit from the announcement outlining how this works:
Players fund their accounts with a credit card or PayPal, select a supported game, choose desired game settings, and pay a tournament entry fee. The player or team that wins the match collects the prize money. Players can compete as individuals or in teams of a chosen size. Cash prizes for each tournament are determined by the number of players in the tournament and the tournaments entry fee. Ultimate Arena has implemented a wide variety of player-friendly features and functions designed to optimize the experience for new and veteran players alike, such as a simple to use interface, a Refer-A-Friend bonus program, and an innovative anti-cheating approach.

He's not racist though, just cuz you make comments like a biggot doesn't mean he wouldn't still kick your ass in Quake and take your money.

It doesn't matter if you're GOD HIMSELF, when you say stupid shit, its gonna get moderated. If you want to be able to truely say whatever you want, make your own site or forum and knock yourself out.

This play for cash is doomed to failure. As if these games werent being cheated in enough, now they give people extra incentive to write cheats constantly.

That and what happens when a bunch of cash is on the line and a player (for whatever reason) gets disconnected from the server? Is his bet null? Can he sue Ultimate Arena and / or his ISP for lost $$$?

Someone obviously wants to be the first person ever to be banned here.

Hope you can ban by IP range, dude...

Years ago, on the Unreal message boards, there was a guy (kid?) who went by the name Artie Shindleman. This guy WAS NOT happy unless he was getting banned. I don't know how many times he got banned, but it was a constant battle. Plus, the message board wasn't monitored on the weekends, so by Sunday night, he'd made the board a complete and utter mess.

"innovative Trust Network system"

Right. Because trust works SO well in these games. Sorry, unless there's some airtight anti-cheating technology, then these guys should be prepared to be lawsuited into oblivion at some point.
