Play for Cash

Ultimate Arena is a newly launched game service run by Dennis "Thresh" Fong offering the chance to play online games for cash prizes. The site is pretty spare of details about the service, as it directs you straight to a sign-in page, but here is a bit from the announcement outlining how this works:
Players fund their accounts with a credit card or PayPal, select a supported game, choose desired game settings, and pay a tournament entry fee. The player or team that wins the match collects the prize money. Players can compete as individuals or in teams of a chosen size. Cash prizes for each tournament are determined by the number of players in the tournament and the tournaments entry fee. Ultimate Arena has implemented a wide variety of player-friendly features and functions designed to optimize the experience for new and veteran players alike, such as a simple to use interface, a Refer-A-Friend bonus program, and an innovative anti-cheating approach.

no more new futurama episodes...

I'm hoping the dvds sell well enough that maybe we'll get a few new episodes...it's a pipe dream I know, but I can hope. Also hope they fix the video on the next set of dvds. That "shimmering" effect when people's mouths or hands move too fast has GOT to go!

As far as being a nerd, all I can say is "Guilty as charged!"

edit: Also, if Futurama has to go, I'd rather it be on a high note, than to be dragged out year after year when it's not funny anymore (cough-The Simpsons-cough).

Pretty idiotic to get to the site and not be able to access even the most basic of information about the service without registering. That, to me, implies that the email addy will be used for marketing purposes (spam lists etc).

Sorry Thresh buddy, I got enough junk email already.

The poor, painful memories of B!llyNose.

I wonder what happened to him?

I also wonder what happened to the guy that went by Royal Dutch Airforce. He was one of the few people that routinely kicked my but in TFC.

Oh, I agree with the x number of removed posts and you are history. Don't know what good it will do, but I agree.

To take a new approach on this, how many removed posts does it take, Stephen? You could set the cutoff at something ridiculous like twenty or thirty; the only - the few - people that would be banned would be those that sought to be.

Just an idea.

Having made a number of posts and not having any problems,
Ray

Hope you can ban by IP range, dude...

Will that block the other accounts he posts from? I have a theory of at least 3 other posters being Fred in disguise.

Years ago, on the Unreal message boards, there was a guy (kid?) who went by the name Artie Shindleman. This guy WAS NOT happy unless he was getting banned. I don't know how many times he got banned, but it was a constant battle. Plus, the message board wasn't monitored on the weekends, so by Sunday night, he'd made the board a complete and utter mess.

Every newsgroup has one freak. Can't ban them there, just hope they go away. Or PLONK 'em. I frequented alt.comp.periphs.cdr for a while and witnessed a guy that had a real hard on for a certain tech support guy from Roxio. He spent all his time bad mouthing the guy, disecting every post to find some small falacy in it.

The guy from Roxio kept it professional. Even when he was fired from Roxio due to budget cuts he kept it professional.

I wish I could remember his name.

There was a guy on alt.games.half-life.tfc - billy something he was a pain as well.

Oh boy, I'm rambling... I'm gonna stop and go get a beer.

Yakuza, you sound kind of angry. Been owned by Thresh or something ? Missed out on your Ferrari ?

Yes, that's a *JOKE*... although you do seem a bit put out about it... relax. He can't force you to give him money. I don't care how good he is with a rocket launcher... he will not follow you from server to server and demand cash. Well, probably not.

Yes, this too was a joke...

Sounds pretty useless. I trust you, and by association anybody you trust, and anybody they trust. So we'll have two accounts, one honest chump that loses a lot and everyone loves. And the chump account will trust the cheating account, and we'll use aimbots and wallhacks in some high-stakes games, and clean up.

I'd say something like eBays feedback system would work better, but thats flawed too.

Thresh also happens to be an excellent writer and has a good handle on on-line gaming in general. I admire the way he's turned the rather dubious honor of winning a twitch-game tournament and turned it into a viable career.
