I've been following this game for a while now, it looks like it should be very, very sweet.

How do I get buyers? How do I do anything different?(indented/italic)

Well you might actually do it the other way around.. check on the market if there is demand for a specific Ore and mine that!! - (I just mined omber for the first hours, and there was a hefty demand for it at the time). If you are in any trouble just ask on the local channel, that's what I did and got loads of hits and tips. I have been in beta for few weeks and I love it.

Quboid, you need to find a station that's run by a mineral-buying NPC corperation. There's probibally not one in the system you started in , but you should have no problem finding one in a neighboring system. Just load up you minerals, jump to another system, and visit every base until you find one that buys the stuff. Then start mining a local 'roid field until you have enough money to start experimenting in the game.

Be sure to watch Corp chat while you're doing this, you'll learn lots about what's going on there.

I think it would be best to wait for some reviews before drawing any conclusions on what the game is like.

it fluctuates wildly.

Does it play a little like Freelancer?

I love that game in multiplayer but not having a centralised location that saves your status was a major downside.

Me and a friend have been through 3 servers now each time just getting a decent ship and the damn server goes offline and never returns so we keep having to start from scratch.

Graphically it's gorgeous but that's all it has going for it IMO. Oh yeah, the music is good too, but you can DL that from the website for free.

once you get past the "what the hell am i supposed to do?" stage.

How exactly do you get passed that stage? I'm in the beta but I can't really work out what to do. I've mined Veldspar and processed it. Put it up for sale, no buyers. How do I get buyers? How do I do anything different?

Eve is a cool game. I just hope they don't release it before it's ready. That could kill it. My friend is beta testing it and I've sat around and watched for a while. It's a very HUGE and interesting game. There's a lot of depth there once you get past the "what the hell am i supposed to do?" stage. They still have a lot of balancing and some bug fixing to do before it'll be ready tho. I'm REALLY hoping they don't blow it. I want my shot at playing it too!!
