Ships Ahoy: Vietcong

Looks like we're starting up where we left off yesterday, but let the ships fall where they may! Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. Ships Vietcong for The PC is the press release with word that Illusion Softworks' Vietnam War shooter has shipped to retail outlets in North America, and is due in Europe on April 11. The announcement includes this assessment of gameplay from Gathering of Developers' president Kelly Sumner: "Vietcong transports players to the Southeast Asia battleground through stunning graphics, intense sound effects and complex missions. This action-packed title will have players riveted as they navigate the varied terrain and constant threat of the jungle war zone."

just because someone uses a crack doesnt mean they pirated the game. i use cracks all the time so i dont have to, as DrEvil said, juggle all the CDs around. i dont see anything wrong with that at all. i understand that they are used for "evil purposes" as well, but it's not always the case.

Actually, EG_T, FADE does exist. I saw it happen when I was playing online last weekend.
It's NOT, contrary to belief, based on the CD. It's the CD key rather. The guy had a legit copy of OFP, but he was using a bogus CD key. In the middle of playing online, we'd get a message that he was "FADING away" and he'd get booted. Sometimes he'd play the whole mission, sometimes it was at the start of the mission, sometimes he got kicked right at the end.
So FADE does exist, but it seems to be a CD key-based online-only deterrent, not offline or CD-based.

I purchased the game, it really is good. I'm not having any problems with it.
Athlon XP 1800
Win2000 SP3
Geforce 4 ti 4400 Det 4109 all default settings
SB Audigy
512mb ram

Anyway the AI is really cool in this game. Instead of just standing and firing while walking towards the player, the AI actually takes cover and pops up and shoots, also it tries to get closer to your position.

So DrEvil, you're saying your game is buggy because of a bad crack? Well boo-hoo. Buy the game, then I'll listen to you.

i was really anxious to get this one into multiplayer the engine lokos great... but oh my god are there cheats.. soo many cheats. skin hack cheats, super armor cheats and i saw a treee carrying an m16 once. Nothing like not being able to kill a flag stealer because not only is he invincible but throwing grenades at his feet to keep others away...

thats the demo though. I really hope the final fixes these bugs. I cant play online for more than half an hour before some guy literaly flies by.

/me crosses fingers: heres hoping multiplayer rocks!

whatever it was, was a bad crack. no fears theres already a new one out. Just pasted that stuff from isonewz, as anyone using the particular crack was having the problems. Seemed a little far fetched to me as well.

FWIW - Codies so called FADE does_not_actually_exist. Its a total marketing ploy. Games like OpFlash was protected by SafeDisc (crackable by my Grandmother with access to Google)

A game degrading overtime ? Game exhibiting strange or unstable effects ? More like piss poor QA and lack of testing - a good excuse to avoid patching games though

think this is it

Codemasters' effective anti-piracy initiatives receive an additional push with the introduction of FADE(tm) a unique PC-based piracy protection system that can degrade gameplay if a counterfeit copy of the game is identified as being played.

Apparently if you crack it, which I always do so I dont have to juggle cd's all the time, the game is full of problems. Some of which I listed here. I give it less than a week.

If they did QA now, what would they do for the first patch? Everyone knows they have to wait until then. [/sarcasm]

/me shrugs. I usually never buy a game until after the first patch is out. More often than not, I just wait until the price drops to $40... I'm thinking about picking up WarcraftIII now. Makes the game budget go farther.

Upon further review, it appears their arms, legs, head are simply being inverted into their torso.

This game is ultra buggy. I'm talking to the point of wonder if they even had a QA section test it. I am referring to the campaign. For instance, after a few saving and loading of saved games, all the models in the game fuck up royally, and the result is a torso that slides along the ground. No arms, no legs, no head. Was amusing at first. Also, I'm only in the 2nd mission, but it sure seems like hit detection is broke or something. I've emptied 3-4 clips into a VC at point blank, the muzzle basically in his chest. No blood, No evidence of hits being registered. Thirdly, also in the second mission... pulling the clip of a grenade immidiately blows me up. They worked fine in the first mission, as a matter of fact, that was the only thing I could kill the VC with, cuz the guns dont seem to work. Press fire once, it pulls clip, again to throw. 2nd mission blows u up completely before u even got the clip completely out. Great graphics, definately has potential, but wtf.
