Nice! This is good progress. The CD-ROM is at least 10 years old, 650MB media just can’t cut it for ever. Hell, I wouldn't even be surprised if we saw the next generation of optical-removable media (consumer level) released in the next few years.

I know this will be an issue for some gamers, but there's no better way to increase industry support. And, come on, DVD-ROM drives are considerably inexpensive these days. I see many going for as low as $15 on eBay. Of course, this is not to mention, I'm sure this is also about the publisher saving money. I'm betting its less expensive to manufacture one DVD these days than multiple CDs.

In the long run, this is a good move for not only publishers, but developers and gamers alike. Sure, some might take issue with the abundance of cut scenes in Solid Substance, but many games _will_ benefit from the increased space garnered through greater DVD-ROM market share.

Funny, this brings to mind another DVD-ROM game… Enter the Matrix. I was reading a recent article about how Shiny was facing the dilemma of cramming their game into 5GB. Made me wonder how they will have to gimp the GameCube version and it’s proprietary 1GBG-CD?! I’m sure we’ll all want them to cut out as much crappy bullet-time cinematics as possible, eh? They’re filming this game in conjunction with the 2nd and 3rd Matrix films, btw.
