Out of the Blue

Bush Signs Anti-Telemarketing Bill (thanks eurodeseo|OSLT) has the good news that some relief from the scourge of telemarketing, as it will create a do-not-call list, with the punishment for calling listed people to be a fine of up to $11,000 for each violation. Of course, there's always a loophole, and the politicians were certainly not going to curtail their own ability to pester us, so: "Charities, surveys and calls on behalf of politicians would be exempt." I can only suspect the worst of this last part: 'Hi, I'm calling on behalf of the U.S. Congress to offer you a way to lower your mortgage rate.'

Demo -

Does something like that help a person get a job somewhere?
What program was used to produce it.
Funny little bit of animation.

Groundhog Day -

Would the audience have to get up, leave, come back in again?

Auction -

Fake auctions are approaching an art form. Too bad they get canceled so quickly.

Gandolfini -

Did I read that right? They offered him a 100% raise and now they've taken it off the table? His agent is either a genious or a dope. I'm leaning towards dope.

I'm just glad HBO has said that w/o him, the show would NOT go on (according to CNN). I was having flashbacks to the last 2 seasons of the X-Files, when David decided he wanted to work 2-4 episodes a year. Boy, did THAT ruin the show in a hurry! (Not that is wasn't already in the hopper to begin with.)

I just want to know what happened to the damn Russian from season 3!

Good! The bill isn't perfect but it is a step in the right direction.

Don't worry Bronco, you probably don't have to put your name on the list. You can still phone torture the telemarketers all you want - probably more, since you may be one of 2500 people not on the list!

Of course I could be wrong... but really, what are the chances of that happening twice?

My latest tactic is to make my answers as short, and as vague as possible. I try to grunt my answers and see if they can make out my intentions.

Belching is good too.

Years ago, I knew a guy who (for his answering machine) took the chainsaw sound effect from Doom and combined it with screaming from a horror film. He then followed it with a (overly) calm, soothing voice, explaining he was "busy" at the moment and to please leave a message.

I think the next time I get a unwanted caller I'm going to take the wireless phone, walk over and grab the britta water pitcher, and walk into the bathroom. Then, as he's giving his spiel, I start pouring the water from the pitcher into the toilet and making "aaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...." sounds...

This is certainly a step in the right direction, however I can just see trying to get this enforced...I had to call the cops 5 times to get them to come over because of some kid waving a gun around and it took them 45 minutes...I can only imagine the BS one would have to go through to actually see this enforced.

Also, why should we have to put our names on a list to not be bothered as if our default setting="bother the crap out of me plaease". I have a better idea...how about those folks that want people to bother the crap out of them can put their names on a "CALL LIST" and everyone else gets left alone to live their lives in peace?

How do I handle telemarketers? I go APESHIT on them until they wish to God they had never called me. I make THEM hang up on ME.

Works pretty good...

"Charities, surveys and calls on behalf of politicians would be exempt."

That sucks. The worst mistake I ever made was giving money to the State Troopers for some childerns service thing they were running.

The turned around and gave my number to every other charity on the planet. The ONLY annoying telemarketting calls I get now are charities.

And it's alot harder to hang up on a 70 year old man from United Way than a wageslave from AT&T.

I'd just like to point out the there are other places on earth where people speak French. Including 7 million Canadians and 4 million people in Belgium. There are 130 million people who can speak french in the world. More than half of them don't live in France.

And Americans wonder why France hates you, The Middle East wants to Fly Planes into you and North Korea wants to drop a Nuke on you. As well as various other country that are just grinding their teeth.

Oh and you'll love this.. 1 million people in America speak French. Maybe the American Government should get them to speak Freedom or Framerican?

Not really game related.. but hey.. I like my poutine made with french fries; anyone who wants to try to take that from me is in for some grief.

I was also reading that congress was considering retaliatory legislation against France and other countries for not jumping on the war bandwagon... WTH? So much for the US's supposed belief in freedom. Yeah, right. Freedom to think exactly like us or ELSE!

Yokeedokee...international trolling huh?

Is everyone that speaks the French language a French person? No, as you pointed out...so STFU moron. My mom and dad can speak French, doesnt make them French...DUH.

I dont wonder why other countries hate us. Its simple, JEALOUSY. France hates us because we have had to save their ass and they cant deal with that FACT. Also, France is upset because they arent a superpower and hundreds of years ago they were hot shit. Oh well, move over France, now there's something better...America.

The Middle East is filled with psycho extremists and buddy I can tell you that they have no more love for you than me if you arent one of them. Your turn is coming too, just a matter of when. Doesnt matter where you are.

North Korea is run by a nutball drunk, they are just trying to extort money from the U.S. Screw them.

Other countries grinding their teeth? Thats all they seem to do...no bite, just a bunch of grumbling pussies, except for the English and the Spanish because they have BRAINS.

OK, one more time here for the slower folks (BeeRkEG)...FRENCH LANGUAGE IS NOT FRENCH PEOPLE. Can you understand that distinction? Or are you that arrogant that you think that everyone that speaks French is a frog?

I was going to boycott French products but then I realized that since I hate Champagne there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING I want, need, or buy from France...useless country? Me thinks so...

My latest tactic is to make my answers as short, and as vague as possible. I try to grunt my answers and see if they can make out my intentions.

My proudest moment of late was when someone called trying to get me to sign up for a credit card. Adopting the voice of a backwater hick, I then informed him that "I'd love ta git it, but my wife Murlene's church says them credit cards are evil". The poor guy tripped over himself saying he fully respected my religious beliefs, but I just *had* to have this card. He kept buying the story, even when I mentioned I wouldn't want "Murlele" to get banned from the bake sale after she'd spent all those hours making bear-claws.

My wife, meanwhile, was taking a bath a couple rooms away, laughing her ass off.

Edit: Ok, so... coding's not my strongest skill.

Well, to my knowlegde the case the US makes regarding "French Fries" and "Freedom Fries" is ignorant, immature, and divisive considering the origin of the small cut potatoe... As well it sounds very Socialist to me to be taunting: "our way is the right way." I guess that's why so many countries see the US as a slack jawed, Bullying, Red-Necked band wagon of racist.

I think I'll go to my local In-and-Out... for that matter??? Any public venue and cry out for some "FUCKING FRENCH FRIES!"

I think some Americans should stop bitching and moaning about what's their DAMN RIGHTS and just live with the rest of the world.

Actually, they are called French Fries because of the jullienne cut which is also called "French cut". French Fries did NOT come from France. I know this because I used to be a chef in New Orleans and we had to learn a few things about the frogs and their food since we used to be part of the frog empire before the imperialistic greedy ignorant frogs sold it to the US for a song so they could be war mongers all over Europe....heh, morons. Good for me though, I am sooooooooo glad I am not a frog.

See, I think the world should stop bitching about the US...we are damned if we do, damned if we dont. It gets to a point where its just silly like the frogs. Half the world is bitching because America doesnt "do something about it" and the other half is bitching because America "sticks their nose in all over the place"....whatever.

Please don't think all Americans support or accept this kind of idiocy.

I couldn't believe it when I actually started to see anti-french sentiment... and only because they are (thank God) vetoing UN involvement in this dirty little war. If anyone ever "corrects" me when I order french fries, I don't think I'll be able to handle it.

I guess that's why so many countries see the US as a slack jawed, Bullying, Red-Necked band wagon of racist.

I think someone needs to take issue with the raceist part. Quite frankly, the rest of the world doesnt have to deal with other races. Ever been to Germany? Nothing but white Germans.....Japan?, nothing but asian-looking (mongaloid) folks...and so on.

When I was in highschool, we went camping one time with a few German exchange student girls. They were SHOCKED that we not only knew a jewish person, but were *gasp* friends with him too. And what really blew their mind, a non-jewish girl was dating him!!!!! They had told us they never been friends with "one of them"....and only seen a few.

I think the US does pretty well considering.....
