SimCity 4 is a perfect example of this. Gone is the "fuck it, I'm going to build a dumbass city just for the fun of it", to be replaced by nail ripping aggravation over your budget, unexplained abandonments, etc.
Sorry, didn't mean to change the thread topic, but it does seem these days that either games are dumbed down to appeal to the masses (Helllllooooo Freelancer!), or are made more complex in an attempt to become deeper, but are totally fucked up in the process (and welcome to you, SimCity 4!).
Bah. I think Deus Ex : Invisible War is the only game I'm going to get for a long time. I'm getting pretty sick and tired of shelling out fifty bucks for the kinds of shovelware that has been released the past year or so.
