This has nothing to do with the topic at hand, but could something please be done with that movie ad on the site? The Hunted or whatever the new Jones movie is. It continually crashes my browser. I'm using Opera, which does conform to standards, so the problem has to be with the ad. Remove it, fix it, something. I can't browser the page without crashing when I do something.

There does seem to be more the story than that article says. The Smoking Gun (http://www.thesmokinggun.com/) has the complaint paperwork. The actual complaint seems to be that this guy was stopping other shoppers and harassing them.

The mall is a public accomodation. If you build a structure intended for public use then you are bound by certain well-established laws. You can't build a mall and ban, say, black people or jews from shopping there. You can do so in your own home, but not a mall, or office, or factory. That's the law, like it or not.

The mall is not public, regardless if it is "open to the public" or not. Again, they can choose to ask someone to leave for almost any reason. Specific laws prevent discrimination based on race, creed etc, but do not prevent speech or t-shirt descrimination. Again, the mall has a right to ask anyone to leave if they don't like their t-shirt. If they do not leave, they are trespassing and can be arrested.

Don't take this post to mean I support such behavior... I find it abhorable. But it is their right to kick him out if they wish.

First of all, I would like to say that this story was in the news on MONDAY, so why it's being posted here on Thursday as "news" is rather peculiar.

However, if you will look at the particulars of the case, the man got arrested (in the end) for failing to observe directions by mall security personnel (which is an offense in many states). His arrest had nothing to do with his Tshirt, but CNN and MSNBC in all their liberal glory like to word their stories so that it APPEARS that way, after all, nothing like another "EeEeeEEEvil Big Brother!!!" story to ratchet up those ratings.

Now, that the security guys HASSLED the man about his Tshirt is freaking absurd, and borders on Gestapo like behavior, and should absolutely not be condoned in this country. Freedom of opinion, security guys, ever heard of it?

However, as unfortunate as it may be, once told to leave the mall, the man had to obey that order, and he didn't, and that's what he got arrested for.

I'm sure that, once this goes to court, he'll be acquitted and if I was him I'd sue both those Nazis for harassment, slander and defamation of character (or something fancy sounding like that).

Sorry, just now saw that the charges had already (wisely) been dropped.

But, once again, he DID NOT get arrested for wearing a peace Tshirt.

Just figured I'd clear that up.

I do not understand why he was arrested, or why wearing the T-shirt would be considered any sort of offense. The only thing I can think of is that he took off his other shirt (the one he was wearing before he bought the T-shirt), and was topless in public before putting the new T-shirt on, but the article doesn't specify that.

Its not like the T-shirt had any offensive slogans on it either. It doesn't make sense to me, and sounds rather un-American.

If he was harassing other customers I would understand the guards asking him to leave, but asking someone to take off their shirt in order to stop harassment seems a bit crazy
A guy here in Utah was forced to leave a Mall because he was wearing a dress. I'm not sure if he has won that lawsuit.

There are next to no real details here but...

I worked in several malls for the same company when I was in the retail racket.

It would not suprise me to find out that the security guards involved in this are over zealous wanna-be cops.

I could easily see some of the security guards where I worked getting into a 'patriotic' based argument with a shopper or other mall employee.
Sad but true.

The company I worked for was sued for millions of dollars (and settled out of court) because of sub-contracted security guards taking company shrink policy into their own hands.

These guys can get a little nutty.
