I finally found time to play this. The hostage level was very fun. I'm impressed. I might have to get this game (too many games already).

I have to give this demo credit.. it only took me about 2 minutes to realize that I want nothing to do with it. Now that's respectable efficiency.

I agree. This game was great when it was first released in 1998. At least they gave this one a good multiplayer.

I can only rescue so many hostages and take so down many tangos before it gets olds and repetitive.

How many more years is this franchise gonna continue?

it can be disabled. Has a wierd sort of slider thingy, and you can adjust auto aim accuracy I think. I turned mine right off tho. This demo is the most well done I have yet to see. Would that all Developers put this kinda package forward for our money. A definate must have game IMHO.

I really don't understand this, but I cannot change my ingame resolution. I can select the resolution in the drop down box, but the resolution itself does not change.

It seems to TRY to change it, but always reverts back to 640x480. This on a Radeon9700pro (catalyst3.1) and winXP SP1 (LG Flatron 915FT+ 19" monitor).

I have no problems with other unreal-engine games, just this one. Any1 else experience this with a Radeon?
(I think this must be a videocard/monitor driver problem)

yah totally agree with #17

If you base your decisions off of what PC Lamer sais then you are pretty screwed, honestly.

You cant decide a purchase from just having read on review, especially one by the folks over at that place who dropped Mafia over some shit and have continued to release low rated reviews filled with excessive "humor" over the past years

1. Looking for a fast download? Subscribing to FilePlanet works.

2. The game is fun, although it seems a bit more "arcadey" than the previous games. It is a nice mix of new and old, this games does not feel as cramped, and I will surely purchase it (translation: I won't cancel my three-month-old pre-orderd :D)

3. Mmm...I love the new engine. It looks really good, reall helps speed up the pace of things, and it runs incredibly fast. 1024x768x32, high detail across the board, 16x AF, and 6x AA nets me a constant 75+ FPS. w00t!

4. As ever, I love and hate how many freaking commands there are for this game.

Seeing some room for improvement, but liking the newer approach,
Ray

Edit: Fixxing mye tipo!

In reply to RyanC, #16... I totally agree. The AI is so much better than the past R6 games, it's unbelievable. I sent a squad through the building to see how they'd do... they came out the other side, with only one man wounded, and they'd killed all but 5 of 35 terrorists (on medium difficulty). The Rainbow AI is alot better, and they actually serve a purpose now (imo). Likewise, the enemy AI is good too. no more do you get shot in the head from a lame ass uzi from across the map, by a drunken russian terrorist

I glanced at my PC Gamer this morning and Raven Shield got a score of 80/100 with it's faults being an "uninspired single-player" and some bugs. Splinter Cell, on the other hand, received a 91/100 for a single-player only game.

Personally, unless future reviews convince me otherwise, I'm gonna skip Raven Shield.

You'd base a game purchasing decision off of what PC Gamer says? Those folks gave Neverwinter Shits a 96%. Not to mention totally snubbing Mafia for their game of the year awards.

I adore this demo! It's packin' the most perfect damage model I've ever seen! The graphics are gorgeous and I get a steady 50FPS on my killeRig.
The AI is superb, and it has the most fluid animations I've ever seen!!!!
It's better than SWAT3, and beats the hell outta the other R6 games because you can load preprogrammed mission plans rather than making your own for 2 hours.
And with its custom mission generator, it has more replay value than Splinter Cell, which I also loved.

Personally I'd skip getting Splinter Cell, or at least wait until it hits the bargain bins.

It's a great game while it lasts, but once you've passed it, there's almost zero replay.

Notice how the game actually runs, with realistic animations? And how the bad guys actually shoot at the good guys, and vice versa? And how the game runs fine both indoors and outdoors?

Oh, and the fact that this is all fictional and not an obscene travesty of a game... that helps too.

I'm glad you understand my point of view!

Anyway...

Got it and played through it. Seems pretty cool, but haven't really gotten to play around with all the new features. Graphics are good, even runs well on my old Athlon 700/GF2 Ti system. Going to play around with it more once I get a chance.
