MoH: Pacific Assault Unveiled

Yesterday's tease of a new Medal of Honor PC game has come to fruition, as there are reports on the press event to unveil the future of the franchise on Boomtown, HomeLan Fed, and PlanetMedalOfHonor. There are scant details on Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault other than its obvious setting in World War II's Pacific theater and plans to release it in January 2004. There is also word to expect another expansion for Allied Assault this summer with a longer solo campaign than the Spearhead add-on as well as a new multiplayer mode.

Allow me to generalize the differences between the enemies in the Pacific Theater and the European Theater into a form that every gamer should comprehend:

Germans = Protoss
Japanese = Zerg

Relative to the Americans and even ze Germans, the Japanese had very little respect for human life. Your honor and the overarching objective of winning the war were paramount, even if it meant self-sacrifice.

The Japs thought that they could apply such principles to POWs (and everybody they conquered in general), and thus their was a huge uproar of vengeance when Americans learned of the conditions their captured soldiers were being subjected to (There was so much uproar that a good chunk of the missions behind-enemy-lines Americans undertook in my country involved saving diseased, malnourished, practically dead POWs before they could be executed by retreating Japs.) Even though the Japs would willingly subject themselves to such conditions if their honor was at stake.

If they pull this off right, there won't only be a change in scenery (My guess is that it will involve a lot of island hopping, as in more amphibious and airborne assaults) but a change in gameplay as well.

Well, after playing two MOH games and RTCW, I'm about ready for a change of scenery myself. I'm dying to check out some Pacific theater missions.

What I would really like to see is a WWI FPS in the same vein. Granted, there would be a lot more trench warfare, but it was a pretty amazing war.

Too bad the next MoH game is set in the pacific theater. I like the European theater much better. It's more interesting.

So this is an expansion pack for an expansion? In other words, if you want the latest expansion you have to buy BOTH expansions plus MOH? And you have to pay for the patch? <Hears imperial march playing in the backround>

I want to check this out. I'm another person that has played both and not had problems in need of patching.

I must be something of a rarity. I've played both MOHAA and the Spearhead Add-on. Both ran smoothly and I had fun playing them. Though I agree that Spearhead was too short, but the multi-player maps were better.

Its odd isnt it... and addon (patch) for Spearhead (an addon itsefl!) that we will have to pay for to fix some of the bugs add more features, but they will be bugged too so we'll have to wait for another addon etc etc etc

A miserable cycle

Check it out, let me quote something from this press release:

"Finally, I'm glad to report that there'll be an expansion pack to Medal Of Honor Allied Assault: Spearhead, which is currently untitled, and will also hopefully be released before Christmas and patch up the current state of Spearhead."

ROFL, listen EA back in early january promised a second patch for Spearhead expansion that will finally fix broken sv_pure and other problems. They promised this to occur in next 30 days, well 30 days passed and no patch. Now I read this press release and it sounds like we have to wait for next expansion to patch the current expansion ROFL! what a joke. rofl EA is all $ and no care of customer at all:) SO in a sense they will charge you to patch spearhead when you get the 3rd expansion for aa+spearhead rofl.
