CTU - Marine Sharpshooter Unveiled

The Groove Games Website (thanks HomeLan Fed) now has the first info about development on a game called CTU - Marine Sharpshooter, where the CTU stands for "Counter Terror Unit." The website features screenshots of the first-person shooter gameplay, system requirements and some details about the game. Here is the description that's offered: "Dropped behind enemy lines, you have uncovered a terrorist plan to construct a nuclear weapon and detonate it on American soil. You must follow the plot from the desserts of Afghanistan through the Russian winter and into the jungles of a small south Pacific island. Armed with an arsenal of authentic sniper weaponry, your only assistance is provided by your observer, your eyes, ears and close quarters machine gun. Make every shot count, your country is depending on it."

You know selling dlc before you patch the client doesn't impress upon me the need to support your shit. -massdev

I wonder what engine that uses? The system specs are fairly low.

Agreed, Sty. The theme is so unoriginal, it hurts. And am I the only one to find this "announcement" quite confusing? Screenshots that can't be enlarged (they probably have good reasons for this), sysspecs so low that I could possibly run it on my C=64, a game that noone has ever heard of before but which is scheduled for release within the next weeks... and to top all of this, since when is a "scope zoom" an essential game feature? Sounds like a title to keep an eye on... if only for a good laugh

Did anyone else think this might be related to "24"? I was hoping we'd finally get the chance to put Kim Bauer out of our misery.

One of these days someone will make a damn good sniper-centric game, but it's obvious this isn't going to be that one. Oh well, guess I'll just pine over Hitman3

"Command your observer to defend and cover your position when the action heats up"

There's a problem right there. The observer is always the higher ranking officer/more experienced sharpshooter, he's the one who should be giving the orders

Silent Scope? (Arcade, DC, PS2)

That's more arcade though.

But the arcade version has that very snazzy rifle with working scope.

I wonder if the "desserts" of Afghanistan include Tiramasu, or just ice cream.

Always be wary of games put out so quickly that their site contains misspellings. My guess is this is another throwaway budget shooter, probably Lithtech-based.

Is it just me or has the primary effect of the broad licensing of the Lithtech engine been to shower us with crap?

I was actually wondering the same thing, but it's Counter Terrorism Unit in "24," not Counter Terror Unit. Bummer. Doing a day in the life of Jack would definitely be interesting. One of the best shows on TV.

That came to mind, it was a lot of fun, but it was more action oriented and silly.

Silent Scope EX took a great turn, with a lot of interesting and unique missions like protect the prez, but you don't know who the assasin is, etc.

Thats the kind of sniper game I was talking about, not arcadey fighting 50 guys at once, but creep in, find your target, blast him, and creep out, more strategy and stealth oriented, like splinter cell at 1000 meters

There just has to, and I mean HAS to be money in putting out average games. I can think of no other explanation for the seemingly endless flood of yawners that are being vomited upon us.

No I haven't played it, but when your screenshots are the size of postage stamps, you don't get the benefit of the doubt from me.

GillBates: Ironically enough Nakatomi Plaza and Jarhead Games are one and the same. Check out the websites for Piranha Games and Jarhead Games. Same company, same crap.
