Out of the Blue

Well I'm glad I mentioned that unsolicited pop-up dealie yesterday, because a forum comment made it clear that what I was suffering from was not a scumware situation, but rather a method for exploiting an internal Windows service. Thankfully indiv posted a link to the Stop Messenger Spam website, which clearly explained the problem, and how to solve it. Whew!

I used to get them, but disabled that service ages ago. Granted, this service shouldn't really be exploitable like this, but all it takes is setting up a PC properly for it to be running smoothly. I don't run anti-virus or a firewall on this PC, as I haven't gotten around to it yet. I'm probably asking for it, but I haven't had a problem so far.

I'm often surprised by the amount of spam people get. I just don't get any sent to my numerous email accounts. Perhaps I've been lucky, or perhaps I'm a deeply boring person who noone has in their Outlook Contacts list.
